Guest isaer Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 My office runs Office XP, so we are unable to open 0ffice 2007 files. I have downloaded and installed Office 2007 compatibility pack per the following kb article. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=941B3470-3AE9-4AEE-8F43-C6BB74CD1466&displaylang=en.. When I open Office 2007 files, i get a message saying this is a pre-release version of the compatibility pack and that it will only open pre-release version of office 2007. WTF!!!!!!!! then ask if I want to download the most recent version, and if you say yes it takes you to the above link where the same file is available. There is no other version. WTF!!! Has anyone found a fix for this or is microsoft forcing everyone to upgrade to 2k7, Should I go out and buy open office from now on?

I have installed and had users utilize the pack successfully many times over. Did you heed the advice of the web page? "Users of the Microsoft Office XP and 2003 programs Word, Excel, or PowerPoint-please install all High-Priority updates from Microsoft Update before downloading the Compatibility Pack." Does it do this on all users with all security levels? -- Shenan Stanley MS-MVP -- How To Ask Questions The Smart Way http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html
Guest Newbie Coder Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 Re: Office 2007 Compatibility Update problem Isaer, You should be asking all Office questions in the respective newsgroup. Guest isaer Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 Re: Office 2007 Compatibility Update problem Yes, high priority updates were installed, and are always installed. There are no other high priority updates to be installed via microsoft update, windows update and office update sites. The problems exist for a domain limited user as well as my own local admin account. My update history even shows that there were two additional security updates installed to the compatibility update. Very strange that this happening. "Shenan Stanley" wrote: > isaer wrote: > > My office runs Office XP, so we are unable to open 0ffice 2007 > > files. You can upgrade your Office XP to Office 2007 for less than $600 per machine, perhaps as low as $239 depending on the model. As a Micros~1 shareholder, I encourage you to investigate this option. I don't think Open Office will open Word2007 files either.
