Guest Brian Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 Hi - Is it possible to reinstall XP (Prof) SP2? I have run sfc and it wants my XP disk to be inserted. However, the CD on the laptop isn't working and the sfc will not read from a USB external CD drive. There seems to be many files that it wants to replace/repair so I am wondering if reinstalling SP2 would do the trick. Any advice on this would be much appreciated. Thanks, Brian.

You have a Recovery CD only or there is a false registry entry, for instance. > There seems to be many files that it wants to replace/repair so I am > wondering if reinstalling SP2 would do the trick. Note that the system files on your WinXP CD might be outdated. Therefore, running SFC may render your system useless as many reports confirm. If ain't broken, don't fix it! -- d-d
