Guest Agnar Renolen Posted October 2, 2007 Posted October 2, 2007 I have installed the OpenType font family "MyriadPro" on my computer. I need to use the "Myriad Pro Semibold" face. Adobe Illustrator correctly recognizes this font, but in 'standard Windows programs', such as Microsoft Word, this font can not be selected. I'm trying to find anything about this on the net, but to my surprise I can't find anything. Agnar Renolen, Norway
Guest Bob I Posted October 2, 2007 Posted October 2, 2007 Re: How to select my Semibold font Perhaps your printer doesn't support the font? Word will only use fonts the default selected printer supports. Hello Agnar It's to do with the way Windows displays different styles within a "family" of fonts. The quick answer is you need to select Myriad Pro Light and then click the Bold style button -- this will give you the Semibold. Here's an extract from "Myriad Pro Readme.pdf" on my Adobe Font Folio CD, which explains a bit more: In many Windows® applications, instead of every font appearing on the menu, italic styles and the bold weight are only accessible by use of the italic and bold style buttons. For example, you could have ten fonts of Myriad Pro installed: Light, Regular, Semibold, Bold, Black and their italics. However, in your Windows font menu you might see only Light, Regular and Black; the italics would be accessed via the italic style button, the Semibold by selecting the Light and using the bold style button, and the Bold by selecting the Regular and using the bold style button. Note that the Black fonts do not have a more-bold style available. Selecting the bold style button when using these fonts in an application will either have no effect, or result in “faked” further bolding, which will usually produce inferior screen and print results. [end quote] There's a similar article with list showing how to select the different weights of Myriad at: http://www.adobe.com/type/browser/html/readmes/MyriadProReadMe.html Hope this helps :-) -- Nightowl
