Since the Creators update Windows Hello is broken on my laptop and I can't figure it out

Hello Folks,

I've been on many forums with my laptop manufacturer and other sites to try and figure this out but I just can't.

A quick background:

I bought my HP Spectre x360 laptop because it featured windows hello. At the time it was one of the only laptops, outside of Microsoft's' own surface brand laptops, to do so.

Shortly after I bought the laptop the Win10 Anniversary update came out. This broke the IR camera drivers and broke windows hello. Folks, including myself, complained on HPs forum and they eventually released updated drivers that made it work again.

Recently with the creators update, the IR Cam drivers broke again so their forums are once again filled with complaints.

The odd thing is though: I've been able to get drivers from them that now make my IR Cam work again.

When I go to setup Windows hello the IR Cam does come on and it goes through the setup process just as it should.

The odd thing is Windows refuses to save any of the setup settings.

Normally when Hello is setup correctly, once it's done, the setup button changes so you can't "setup" again until you delete the previous setup. That is no longer happening on my laptop. It lets me "setup" over and over and over again without saving any of it.

If I don't have a PIN setup, it will let me go through the whole hello setup process including setting up a PIN but then nothing is saved, including the pin.

If I already have a PIN setup, and I go to setup hello it will launch the setup popup and ask for my pin, but as soon as I enter it, I hear a windows chime but no error message pops up, and the hello setup screen offers no way to move forward with the setup. The only option given is cancel. I've attached a screenshot to show what I mean.

In the process of troubleshooting I've thought a clean slate might help so I've whipped Windows many times. I'm actually using my laptop currently with very little installed on it since I whipped it less than a week ago.

Also the laptop originally came with Windows 10 home, and I've since upgraded my license to Windows 10 Pro.

But even when freshly installed, windows 10 seems to not want to setup windows hello.

Does anyone have any insight into this?

Could it be a hardware issue?

I'm really stuck on this one and I'm pretty frustrated that the feature I bought the laptop for is the only thing that doesn't seem to work anymore.

Any assistance or guidance would be greatly appreciated.
