Due to some other issues I was experiencing which no one seemed able to fix (OneDrive issues in particular), I recently attempted a Windows reset.

This seems to have fixed the OneDrive issue for now, but a new issue has come up which is that when I try to reinstall iTunes, I get this error message:

An error occurred during the installation of assembly 'MicrosoftVC80.CRT.type="win32".version="8.0.50727.6195".publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b".processorArchitecture="amd64". Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT:0x80073715

I have had an unproductive call with Apple Support today who tell me this is a Windows issue and nothing to do with iTunes. They have advised me (with the caveat that they are not allowed to recommend it), that I should probably try re-installing Windows again.

I am loathed to do this in case it undoes the OneDrive fix, not to mention how time consuming it will be to re-download and install all of my apps again.

Following some other forums, I managed to get hold of an older version of iTunes, which installed fine, but then tells me that my library file can't be read as it was created in a later version of iTunes.

The file "iTunes Library.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes.

I have then tried running Apple Software Update in the hope that it will update the software to the latest version that way, but then get this message:

Errors occurred while installing the updates. If the problem persists, choose Tools, Download Only and try installing manually.

So of course I have then tried the Download Only approach, and try the manual installation. I then get this message:

Service 'Apple Mobile Device Service' (Apple Mobile Device Service) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient priveleges to start system services.

That is despite running as an administrator, and I can see in Services that it is running. To prove it, I have stopped it and started it manually, but the same error message still comes up when I hit retry, so I clicked Ignore!

I am then told iTunes has been installed. But when I open it. I now have this error:

A required iTunes component is not installed. Please repair or reinstall iTunes. (-45075)

The issue I think is the Apple Application Support program, which when I try to install separately using AppleApplicationSupport64.msi gives the same error message as posted at the beginning of this post.

Can anyone help with this - it is really annoying!
