As always, Microsoft Windows 10 upgrade team has created more problems than solutions for users with their update. The latest one on July 22 is classic Windows 10 upgrade -- it completely presumes that the user's PC is empty, devoid of any other apps and software (anti-virus, audio, video players, so on). And goes about messing with existing apps, settings, configurations. After the long upgrade lasting several hours, you open the system -- presto, you are told some wonderful new features have been introduced -- like importing favorites from other browsers, synching web-based email with built-in email app, so on. You figure the anti-virus is no longer working properly. You contact help desk. The remote session guy takes control. After a while, while he is still at the helm, he asks you to key in your password. You are not comforable. He does not assure you he can't see what you key in. He has your telephone number. But he does not call you. He reminds you this is complimentary service, meaning free of charge, so don't expect too much. You disconnect and seek help again. Another help desk guy. You tell him what happened. He takes remote control of your PC. And says you uninstall and re-install anti-virus. While the process is on, he disconnects the chat before the process is completed and before you confirm the problem has been resolved. The PC shows a pop-up message on screen every time you start. "Failed to create Conexant Audio Factor, The SmartAudio will now exit". You figure one of the two pre-update audio options is no longer working now. You try to figure out what happened. You try to find a solution. You get directed to this community, where you realize you are one of the millions of suckers struggling with similar problems, all kinds of problems. Welcome to the globalized high-tech digital world where nothing works the way it is supposed to, and there seem to be more problems than solutions, more confusion than clarity, more ignorance than knowledge. -- July 27, 2017
