Computer does not start up

I tried switching my computer on a few days ago it was running correctly until after they show the windows logo and it just cuts to a dark blue screen. I've had this problem before but i've been able to tackle such problems just by keeping it running for a while, but this time when i try to access my computer it starts up but it shows nothing but a dark blue screen. does anyone know how to fix this or how i can avoid running the same problem later on?
