No AUDIO from Laptop

My HP Laptop PC shows the icon "No speakers or headphones are plugged in", the VLC palyer volume at at optimum but no sound.

 

 

The actual PC volume cannot be increased despite continual pressing of the volume button.

 

 

Also trouble-shooting only shows BLUETOOTH headphone & headset, despite plugging in an earpiece.
