lancer9038 Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 Hi new to all this and bought a desktop which is fine for internet browsing, email etc but when i try to play games (empire total war) its a bit slow. The system is acer 3641 uk version with vista home premium 32 bit. cpu is core2 quad q6600. 640 hard drive and i think 3 gig of ram. from what i understand it has integrated graphics on the motherboard (NVIDIA GeForce 7100/nforce 630i - not sure what motherboard. what i need to ask is if and what i can upgrade to graphics card wise without increasing power to obtain better results with games. any help would be most appreciated Quote Asus P5Q ProIntel Q66004GB OCZ Reaper260GTXCoolermaster CM690
maynardvdm Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 Hi Welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help. I am not from the UK so i cant advise on prices or shops but a few things we need to know: 1. What is the budget you are thinking of? 2. What PSU do you have? Some of the other mods can then advise what shops will be best. Quote We are all members helping other members. maynardvdm Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 Ok. I'll let one of the other mods go futher, but i think you can look at the Nvidia 9800GT. Quote We are all members helping other members. lancer9038 Posted April 6, 2009 Author Posted April 6, 2009 checked psu 250 watt which seems pretty crap. will it take a 9800? Quote Asus P5Q ProIntel Q66004GB OCZ Reaper260GTXCoolermaster CM690
Dalo Harkin Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 I honestly would not risk it - please list all your system Quote Intel Q6600 @ 4Ghz (Watercooled)Asus P5K premium black pearl4GB OCZ Reaper 8500260GTX Join Free PC Help - Register here Donations are welcome - here PC Build We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. After all, no one knows everything and you may have the answer that someone needs.
DirtyPolo Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 I am guessing that this is your system, but with a Quad core as you said in your post. Aspire M3641 Your system will fit a 9800GT But unforutnatly the minimum power supply you need for that card is 400W. I would also suggets looking at ATI cards, this is because you get alot more for your money. The reason for this is as follows: The ATI contender for the Nvidia 9800GT, is the ATI Radeon HD4850 [the card that I personally have] Both cards are around the same price, but the ATI gives out more graphical power, as shown by Nvidia's own tool to check how fast your system will be with the chosen card if it was in your machine, and it showed that if I swapped my HD4850 for a 9800GT, it would actually lower the performance. So overall, I would chosoe the ATI HD4850 which can be found for about £100 cheapest, about the same price as the 9800GT, and they both need around 450W minimum power supply. Hope this helps and wasn't too confusing. Quote Cooler Master HAF 932Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 3.3GHzAsus P5K Premium Black Pearl2GB OCZ reaper 1066MHZATI Radeon HD4850Pictures! Dalo Harkin Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 You can use this for 20/22'' monitors Play.com (UK) : Play Value GeForce 9800GT / 512MB / DDR3 / PCI-E / Graphics Card : Computing - Free Delivery It uses 225Watt of power when loaded and 140Watt when idle. So you need a 500Watt PSU to play it safe really Hope this helps Quote Intel Q6600 @ 4Ghz (Watercooled)Asus P5K premium black pearl4GB OCZ Reaper 8500260GTX Join Free PC Help - Register here Donations are welcome - here PC Build We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. After all, no one knows everything and you may have the answer that someone needs.
