Why does the position slider not work on some of my MP4 video files?

I've noticed that on several of my MP4 video files the slider for moving to areas of the video only resets the video to play from the beginning no matter where I set it and that the total length of the video does not display to the right of the control buttons like most of them do. The elapsed time displays to the left of the control buttons however. It's only 10 to 15 of the files out of probably a hundred or so, the rest of them work normally.The ones that are not working properly were recorded on the same devices, either my Android phone or my laptop, however they may have been edited.
