get UNDI API not available from NT client

I've installed the Microsoft Network client on a machine using the DOS version of the installation program. When I boot and do a "net start", the NDIS driver reports the following message: Error: UNDI API Not Available. Is this a problem with the hardware? In Disk Administrator, all choices under 'Fault Tolerance' are greyed out. In addition, when trying to start ftdisk (under control panel->devices), error message 0020 appears: cannot find the device specified. Am I missing a file? Is there another way to install the service? Thank you.
