Windows Genuine Advantage - reports Windows not genuine
by Guest Gerry- 2 replies

XP Pro SP2 Windows is a OEM install and been running fine for the past 4 years and has always passed a WGA check. The most recent update to WGA wiped out my video driver which resulted in the system booting with only a VGA display. I reinstalled the video driver and now have the proper display, but WGA continues to report that Windows is not genuine. I ran through the validation process and received a pass, but WGA continues to tell me my OS is not genuine. I restored the entire drive from a backup prior to installing the latest WGA but I am still getting the not genuine error. How can I get things back to normal?

This has to do with downloads using IE6. I made the mistake of designating a specific download file extension as "Do not ask..." I want to reset the extension so IE always asks what to do. How do I do this? Where's the Registry entry?

Hi, The file on my Win XP Pro SP2 PC called dmserver.dll - located here c:\Windows\system32\dmserver.dll - has a virus according to my anti-virus software and confirmed by virusscan.jotti.org where 5 of the AV checkers showed a positive. I've no idea how to restore a clean version of dmserver.dll can someone tell me how please? Extra important info.: Today I installed a new SATA hard disk and a SATA II controller card for it. After installation I pointed the XP 'found new hardware wizard' to the controller card's CD for the drivers, all seemed fine until I went to Control Panel -> Computer Management -> Storage -> Disk Management to forma…

FIrewire 400 connection between notebook and workstation
by Guest penciline- 2 replies
I inadvertently posted this in the Media Center newsgroup . . . What I want to know is how to connect my notebook and my workstation such that I can record the video signal from my notebook (a specific window on the notebook) onto the hard drive of my workstation via a firewire connection. I imagine that this type of connection vs. an S-video connection will enable the audio and video signals to be synchronized. Is this possible or should I be using a screen capture software on my notebook to record directly to the notebook's hard drive. If so, what software is recommended? (Adobe Captivate?) Sincerely- -=- penciline -=-

Hi, I can't seem to delete 5 folders that sit in my recycle bin, they all say their size is 0 KB's. If any other files are deleted and added to the recycle bin then I can delete them. If I try to empty the recycle bin I get the error: "Cannot remove folder <name>:cannot find specified file. Make sure you specify the correct path and file name" Any ideas?
