I'm on IE 7, and ever since a virus in Apr, My OE is very slow to open sometimes, and at other times it only opens half way, with no text showing. I have to close this and open again and then it usually works. I am running TM Int. Security; I am on auto Win.XP updates, but TM seems to block drwtsn32.exe after which I have had end programs for MSIMN.exe and directDBnotifyWndproc. I don't know where the problem lies, and would like some help please. This can also be posted. Thanks, Jean

by Guest Yasin Akkan- 5 replies

Hello everybody. One day I deleted the show desktop icon in the quick launch area by mistake. I wanted to add this button again to its original place but I could not. I could create a shortcut of it on the desktop and drag it to quick launch next to the Start button but although it seemed the same old button it opens the desktop as a seperate folder and did not show me the desktop. The only thing I want is to minimize all the open files and see my desktop with this button. I tried to open and close the show quick launch command from the preferences of task bar but it loaded the other programs i.e explorer button but not show desktop. Can anybody help me t…

Re: Cannot remove program, Broderbund Mavis Beacon, keystroke hook This has nothing to do with Windows Update functionality. Forwarded to WinXP General via crosspost. > I run Windows XP SP3...and Registry [Mechanic] You'll probably have to reinstall the application in order to uninstall it, since Registry Mechanic probably removed the necessary uninstall files for the current install. Still think your Registry needs "cleaning" or "repairing"? OS blown out @ logon
by Guest nosirrah- 7 replies

Installation of an update of a highly reputable anti-spyware programme has blown out my XP (SP3) at the logon stage with the rtlGina2.dll fault, (otherwise well documented). In addition startup in safe mode hangs at mup.sys and recovery console won't take my password. I have available the two possible 'fixes' but apparently no suitable access to run them so they repair the original OS. I have also: Vista on HDD1; and a (temporary, I hope) parallel XP installation on HDD0. Have I ANY simpler option tham creating a Bart PE disc (or the total reinstallation of apps, etc on the parallel XP or the Vista), please, anyone?? I fear this will be a two-letter a…

Repairing XP for HP devices
by Guest Vernon CThomas- 3 replies
I have worked with HP to uncover a problem with all of my HP devices ( they got flaky and HP techs made the problem worse and worse until they won't install at all ). I have been advised to re-install Windows XP but 1) my Dell-supplied reinstall disc has no key info; 2) I am on SP2 with countless security updates since original; etc., etc. My only problem is with the HP-related files and drivers. Is there some method to do a repair without regressing? It would take days upon days to get this system back if I uninstall and attempt to reinstall from scratch.

Displaying a Photo as Desktop Background
by Guest PT- 7 replies

I have two monitors: one is a 4:3 on a desktop and the other a 16:9 laptop monitor. I want to use a .JPG file from a 4" x 6" digital camera photo as the desktop background on the laptop. But when I set it up by right clicking on the desktop, selecting properties, and browsing to the appropriate .jpg photo file, the resulting image is stretched out, distorting the photo in a manner similar to what appears on sports bar HDTV sets. I assume there's a way to retain the correct aspect ratio, leaving a pair of "black" bars at the left and right ends of the photo. How to do it? -- PT

Now that I've replaced my laptop, I'd like to wipe the hard drive clean and reinstall XP in view of possibly selling it off. The problem is that the CD player is inop. Whats the best way to wipe the hard drive and install a fresh copy of XP? I do have a USB drive large enough for the OEM version of XP.

This is a long-standing set up, have installed dozens of applications over the last few years ... so I know that the connection/partnership works. Has anyone come across something like this? online dictionary, thesaurus and translation
by Guest computerilliterate- 2 replies

I have just changes PC unit, and I am trying to find my old settings, as I could not transfer them from the old one. One setting that I used to rely heavily on is the online translation, synonym, thesaurus, dictionary etc. I used to click or highlight one word in my text (in word), to find a synonym in the same language, or a definition, or a translation of this word into another language, French mostly. The usual window used to appear on the right of the text, with many suggestion. The version I have now is very poor and hardly suggest anything... God knows how I managed to install this first place, but it appeared one day, and I haven't got a clue how…
