Can VPN but not access any machines
by Guest Taras_96- 2 replies

Hi all, I'm having a problem where I can connect to a client's VPN 100% of the time, but can only RDP into or ping their local machines maybe 30% of the time (it seems to have periods where it's working and then periods where it's not working). I'm not after so much a solution, because I realise that this is nowhere near enough information for someone to even begin to try to figure out what's wrong (although if you have a solution that would be fine :) ), but more tips on how/where to even START looking. Also, we VPN into a number of other clients' machines, and both the VPN and being able to RDP into their machines works 100% of the time (we are experienci…

I was having problems with Kodak EasyShare. One solution suggested to take it out of the MSCONFIG file. I ran MSCONFIG, clicked the Kodak EasyShare, clicked Apply. It then told me that I needed to reboot my computer. I did. Now the system comes up Start Windows Normally or Start from last Known Settings that Worked. No matter what I click, it goes back to this screen. What did I do?! How can I fix it? Please help - cf

XP desktops and vista notebook can connect to network but xp notebooks can't?
by Guest gaikokujinkyofusho@gmail.com- 4 replies
- 321 views
I just got a a linksys wireless router and got it all setup first my xp notebook, then a vista notebook, then a xp desktop all with no problem. I next tried to connect another xp notebook and it gave some strange error (about the IP address) and then i went back to my notebook and started getting the same error and then with another xp notebook . Now all the xp notebooks tell me "limited or no connectivity" when i click on "details" it gives me a funky ip address (like 254.105.109 instead of a normal 192.168.1.x like the router is giving to the xp desktops and the vista notebook. The subnet mask is also different than what i put into the router. I can't figure…

defrag problem
by Guest manic chris- 7 replies

I hope somebody has an idea on this one. When I run the defragment analyse utility it tells me I need to defrag and shows loads of red on the display just to make the point. However, when I run the defrag it gets to the end and the drive is still fragmented!! I even ran recovery console and used chkdsk c: /r thinking I might have one or two corrupt files but this has made no difference.

Upgrade Hard Drive, Dell E1505 Laptop
by Guest gus- 3 replies
I want to upgrade to a larger hard drive on my Dell E1505 Laptop. I have questions regarding the software transfer (not the physical installation of the drive). The system was purchased with WinXP and subsequently upgraded to Vista Ultimate and Office 2007. I see Dell places four partitions on the drive: Utilities, Windows C:\ drive, Backup and something called "CP/M, Concurrent DOS, CTOS". Questions are: -Is there a way to clone the old drive to the new drive, which is larger (Presumeably this involves physical hookup of the two drives, and a cloning ultility which works with Windows Vista). -Or can I use my Dell (Windows XP) reinstall CD's onto the new…

Questions on restricted shares - XP Home
by Guest Peabody- 1 reply
My desktop runs XP Pro, but two other family members have laptops running XP Home. I would like to be able to restrict share access on each computer to just one of the other two. So, for example, I want to sync certain financial files with one laptop, but not the other laptop (which would itself have it's own syncs on different folders). The problem is the XP Home computers. Home seems to treat everyone on the network as a Guest logon, and completely ignores that actual name and password of the user logging in. And while I can change the NTFS permissions of a folder as it applies to Guest, I don't see how to assign different rights to different ne…

Anyone know how to fix a very determined DST off-by-an-hour?
by Guest dontdont@gmail.com- 4 replies
I have one user with a Dell running XP Home. All the Microsoft bug patches are applied after waiting a few days to see if other people report problems. System has run without substantial problems for a number of years. There are hardware firewalls, software firewalls, antivirus, antispyware, scans done on a regular basis, etc, etc, etc. Has not had any malware on it for years. After the Microsoft DST patches were installed the system after the system would boot every few days randomly it would have the clock be an hour early. Even after the "old DST date" change passed the problem persisted. I tried repeatedly manually pushing the clock forward an hou…

Anyone know of any free software that does the same thing that windows system restore does? I just can't count on windows system restore because I keep getting corrupted restore points. I flushed out all my restore points on 7/4 and today tried to restore to that date and it didn't work. I don't know how that restore point got corrupted that fast. -- Message posted via WindowsKB.com http://www.windowskb.com/Uwe/Forums.aspx/windowsxp/200707/1
