Yesterday while listening to music just fine, I got a pop up from Apple saying there is a new version of itunes and asked if I wanted to update. So of course I said yes. Well now ever since the update ALL my audio sounds weird. It sounds like a high pitched robot voice when people talk and all my music sounds sped up. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and just uninstalling. Any one know what would cause this? I NEED MY MUSIC :-) Thanks E

Protection Error 103
by Guest Kcirtap1990- 1 reply
Recently I have been getting an error message when running certain programs on Windows XP Home Edition. The error is "Protection Error: 103". When I ran a program this error popped up and closed the program. I thought it was just a problem with the program itself so I left it alone. Then a few weeks later it started popping up in other programs, such as Internet Explorer. And now it will show up while a program is running and not just when I am starting it up. If anyone knows of a solution, please help me out. Thanks, Patrick

This particular PC XP SP2 has been giving me all kinds of issues. I can not even get into Windows Explorer. I get a Data Execution Prevention message. This also means Control Panel and quite a few other things don't work. Windows Explorer does however work in Safe Mode. Any ideas on how to correct the problem?

Windows Installer cannot install any msi
by Guest rg_ixia- 5 replies

I have uninstalled a software on my office computer last week and since then it is impossible to install any MSI package. As soon as I click the icon I get the message: “This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package …”. Uninstalling software does the same thing. I searched on internet. In 99% of the cases, this message appeared at the installation of specific packages and there was a workaround to solve the problem or the package had been corrupted during download or something like that. But cases like mine were rare and the few forums where the subject was discussed ended with no conclusion. As suggested I reinstalled Windows Inst…

My DVD RW drive loads by default as E:, the lowest available letter. I want to use E: for something else, so I assigned it the letter Z: using Administrative Tools. But on reboot it reverts to E:. A virtual drive created by the InstantWrite software has the same problem, i.e. I cannot permanently reassign the drive letter, but another DVD drive which was earlier assigned to Y: is still Y:. I can successfully reassign the drive letters of the various hard disk partitions. They do not revert on reboot. I have just reinstalled my whole system. I had the problem before reinstallation, but as far as I can recall it was not there at first in the new installati…

Disk Read Error...What the Heck??
by Guest C J.- 5 replies
Today when turning on my PC - I was greeted with a "Disk Read Error - press ctrl - alt - del to restart." message. My PC has been running great - up to today. I'm thankful I thought to make a NT Boot floppy a while back just for stupid things like this happening. Anyway, I typed in the error and found a KB article relating to using older versions of Windows (multi boot) with Windows Vista. They recommend correctly re-installing the older OS. My problem however, is I'm running Windows XP SP2. Theres no Vista installed on my System, and I've had no problems starting up until today.

ChkDisk Problem
by Guest Michael Mossman- 9 replies

Every time Windows (XP Pro) tries to start up, ChkDisk cuts in with a suspect disk problem. It never finds a problem but, if I don't stop it, it will loop all day without ever starting Windows but perpetually running ChkDisk. How can I stop this startup problem occurring, starting with the premise that I do not have a faulty disk. Thanks, Mike.

cannot format hard drive
by Guest nizan- 8 replies
I have 3 computers, all of them with the same problem. I've made a startup ms-dos disk, I inserted the disk and restarted my computer. Whenever I type format c: and press enter I get the following error: bad command or file name Whenever I type cd c: end press enter I get the following error: invalid driver specification Anybody know what could be the problem? I used partition magic to format my hard because i did not have any other options. But the formating takes less then 1 minute. My hard drive has 50GB and I really doubt that it only takes 1 minute to format it. Thanks -- nizan

XP Screensave password
by Guest Mike H- 3 replies

Apologies for this re-post but I didn't get an answer that solved the problem of being asked for a password after my screensaver has kicked in. To recap:- The screensaver i'm using "My Picture Slideshow" doesn't require a password. Screensaver setup "on resume password protect" is not checked. The "Prompt for password when computer resumes fron standby" on the advanced tab of power management is not checked. Despite this I am still being made to enter a password. Any further thoughts? ftp connection disallowed while firewall on
by Guest Nathan- 2 replies
My first symptom was when I was trying to download teamspeak. it pointed me to an ftp site for the download but when I clicked on it, it did nothing or gave me 'page not found' message. The second symptom: I try to use the command prompt function 'ftp' to a ftp server I know works and It says that it connected but it immediately says "connection closed by remote host." Also, when I try to use Core FTP LE to connect to my webserver's ftp site it couldn't even connect at all. However, I did narrow it down a bit. I turned off my firewall from the security center and everything worked perfectly fine. Any insights would be appreciated. Thank Nathan…

Mass renaming
by Guest Kieron Capehorn- 9 replies
Is there a method of renaming all the files in a folder systematically? I have a folder full of files that begin with numbers. I want to add a 0 to the beginning of each filename (i.e. 1.xls will become 01.xls). I have tried putting the command 'rename *.* 0*.*' into command, but that replaced the first letter of each filename with a 0, rather than adding a 0. This there an easy way to do this? Thanks.

Running process woes in Windows Task Manager
by Guest Jackson- 9 replies
A process named Agent.exe is active in Task Manager to a ridiculous degree. The name pops up as a running process and during several seconds appears to make scores of read/write calls to the registry. Then it disappears for several more seconds until it comes back up and repeats the process (over and over and over...). I tracked the program to: C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\UpdatServices\. I renamed it to ZZZagent.exe and rebooted. The machine goes thru a frenzy of trying to find Agent.exe which I renamed. It tells me to insert the ScanSoft Omni Page SE 4.0 disk and etc. Finally I keep cancelling the requests and it tells me that the Wind…
