I have a laptop with XP Pro that has "Password must meet complexity requirements" enabled in the Local Security Password Policy. I need to turn that off. However, when I try to edit it, the enabled/disabled buttons are grayed out. I'm using an administrator account. How can I reset that? Can I patch the registry somewhere? Thanks, Bruce.

FTP

I am using the built in ftp command in Windows XP to connect to a Unix Server ih the same network subnet. When I start ftp and the ip address of the server it asks me for a user name and password which I type in and it works fine. I am trying to write a series of commands into a batch file and I would like to include the user name and password within the batch file so that the user is not prompted for them. Is there a way to do this. Your help would be appreciated. Regards, Guido

Anyone knows about some key combination that would automatically finish the folder names as you typing them in? I've seen someone doing it but I couldn't get a good look at the key combination he was using.

Hi, I have a problem with an user profile: Is there any way to restore it? When I try to log on a warning appears: 'It is impossible to load the user profile' [my error is in Italian]. In User Profiles under Status for profile with problem I read 'Backup' and not 'Local' like others. OS: Windows XP sp3; workgroup; only local accoun. Thanks.

Related Topic Buttons
by Guest Sam- 0 replies

Several of my software applications have Related Topic buttons. To use an example, the HELP files, at the top of the subject matter will have links for Examples, See Also, etc. The purpose, you click on the related topic button and see additional information. All of my applications that have this feature are NOT showing the Related Topic link. They show a little square box (similar to an html page when a graphic is not there). At first I thought it was the application but when I see many of the applications doing this, I figure it must be the Windows environment causing the problem. Anyone have any idea? -- Thank You, Sam

What is application data folder?
by Guest josef- 1 reply

I am working on a Win XP Pro. I have admin rights and there is a limited profile. On the limited profile desktop there is an icon for a program (program not needed to be mentioned at this time) This program points to and is in the application data folder. I did not install this program. It is not on the admin desktop nor is it in the add/remove or the program files folder. What is the Application data folder and can a limited user install a program? For now I am trying to understand this folder and am looking further into this program.

IE icon appearing on CD
by Guest ray124c41- 3 replies

I just burned a copy of a folder containing folders containing image files to a CD using RecordNow. Instead of getting a copy of what's on my C drive, the usual icons have been replaced by the IE icon in all but the thumbnail view. But even there, all the usual folder icons and the image file thumbnails have the IE icon superimposed on them! Yuk!! How do I prevent this? How do I get a copy of what's on my C drive without the IE icon showing up? I have repeated the copy process several times and get the same result. Never had this problem before. I have Windows XP Professional SP2 running on an HP Pavilion 734n. Thank you. ray124c41

ActiveX Control
by Guest icart89- 4 replies

I need activex to view assignments from school online but I don't have that option in the bar at the top. The only options available relate to pop-ups. On my old hard drive, the option for active x was usually there. I don't remember downloading it or even paying for it. I have a new hard drive now and active x isn't available. I thought about downloading it but I don't trust the sites. Why isn't active x available? Is it something you download? If so, which site do I download it from?

Cmd language: copying a file to another computer on LAN
by Guest JWirt- 1 reply

I want to copy a file to another computer on my local network with a batch command. I wrote this statement in the command file: if not exist \\192.168.1.102\g:\Lotus\work\AAccounts.APR goto :end When I run the command file, I get an error message that the "drive not found." ":end" is a label in the batch file. The machine at 192.168.1.102 is accessible from my machine using Explorer. Should the drive letter have a "$" sign after it, as in g$? Doesn't help. Thanks.
