Service Users and domain printer mapping
by Guest IshmaelDS- 0 replies
I have a machine that uses a Users running at the service level and am trying to map a printer shared off of a win98 computer that is part of our 2000 level domain. The machine that the service user is running on is not part of the domain. It is fairly heavily customized and seems to be having problems keeping the mapping. I can map the printer manually no problem but it doesn't seem to want to remember the password(even though we checked the box) and I can't access the keymgr so I can't set that to remember any passwords. Any Ideas?

FTP Problem
by Guest Olen R. Pearson- 0 replies

Hi, I am having a very odd problem with FTP. Basically, it won't work. The FTP client seems to connect but then issues an error and no files appear on the remote server. The last time I needed to use FTP was in February of this year, and it worked fine. Now, when I try it, it goes nowhere. I have tried several different FTP clients and accounts, all with the same outcome. It is not a firewall problem; I run only Win XP Pro firewall and have tried it with that disabled + anything else that even MIGHT effect connections. I have tried it in Safe Mode with no success which makes me think it is not a conflict with another app - though I don't believe I have …

I read through many of the other inputs, but some of the links are no longer active. In the path bar the "Shared documents" shows up in the path bar as "documents". Initially, the path lead to some confusion when I was trying to find the missing documents folder that was in the path of file.

Windows Installer Problem
by Guest bigjohn- 8 replies

I’m running Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 3 on a Dell Dimension 4600 desktop computer. I have a downloaded update for Outlook that will not install. It keeps trying to install and fails every time. Also, when I try to uninstall a program, I get an error message that reads: “The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance.” I am running in normal mode, not safe mode. Any suggestions as to how I can resolve this problem? -- Thanks, John

by Guest Bubbus- 3 replies

XP Pro OS would not load... it gets stuck at the splash screen (the blue bar keeps going for so long then it just reboots itself then the same thing over and over again). It wouldn't load into Safe Mode either. The hard drive light was on solid the whole time, not flashing. XP CD would not load so no further repair or adjustment can be done... the CD would start spinning but then stops, it wouldnt load. Any suggestions on repairing? Thank you!

So, in Windows XP, you can right-click on the taskbar, select Toolbars > New Toolbar and select a folder or drive that you want to setup a new toolbar to for. Can somebody tell me where in the profile or registry Windows stores the source location (The drive/folder that you selected) for this toolbar? Any help would be apreciated.

Ever since I downloaded Windows XP Service Pack 3, The Blue screen, (death screen) periodically comes up, and NEL_STACK_INPAGE_ERROR appears, with the bottom part of the screen that says stop:0X00000077. Sometimes, after I shut my computer off, let it sit, and re-start it, I can get it running again. Sometimes it will take 3 or 4 restarts to accomplish this. Any help would sure be appreciated.

The Windows Search function doesn't work
by Guest Wallace- 4 replies
Bit of a weird one thisone.... When I go in to the Windows Search function I expect to be able to enter my search criteria. However, I don't get any boxes to enter my search criteria, only the Windows pet, which doesn't do anything when I click on it. Also the Edit pulldown menu exists but you don't get any menu appearing when you click on it! Any idea why this might be and what I might do to rectify it?

Application lock-up
by Guest gary- 5 replies

In Excel 2007, while saving a spreadsheet; selecting, deleting or inserting columns; etc, an hourglass appears on my monitor and I can hear the local hard disk spinning (the sound is more noticeable than when the hard disk is not being accessed). But, after the process ends, the hard disk repeatedly speeds up and slows down and I can't work on the spreadsheet (the hourglass remains on my monitor). Task Manager's "Application" page shows that "Microsoft Excel" is "Not Responding". And, the "Processes" page shows that the "Mem Usage" for EXCEL.EXE does not change. What is causing this problem and how can I resolve it?

Is this normal?
by Guest Dan- 4 replies

I am using Windows XP Pro SP3 and use AVG 8.0 as my sole Antivirus and Antispyware protection. I scan once a week and update everyday. I have been using this product for a few years (since AVG 6) and not once (okay, maybe once or twice in three years) has it found a virus or spyware, other than tracking cookies. I don't use the internet very often except to visit "mainly" the links in my Favorites list. I also do several Google searches, but also use AVG's Link Checker to navigate to safe pages only. Is it normal to be 100% virus and spyware free, or is AVG letting viruses and spyware through without seeing it? Or maybe I am simply fortunate to not…

usb hard drive
by Guest rb- 2 replies

My pc with Windows XP is having a problem putting things on USB hard drive. I have tried to put Files (like My Docs) to USB hard drive. There are indications it's doing that. However, the files in USB drive don't open with any content. Won't let me delete them, either. Get an error message which says there are files in the directories. Now, I have one of the low priced USB port things I bought off Ebay and put in. Could be something wrong there. What does this sound like?

Restoring to a Restore Point using the Command Prompt
by Guest rfj1001- 4 replies

I can't logon to my user account so I'm using KB304449 to try to restore the system to an earlier point. I can get to the command prompt but if I then type the command : %systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe I get the message command unrecognised. If I go to the C:\windows\system32\restore and then type rstrui.exe I still get the same message. Can SKS tell me what I might need to do to get the rstrui.exe file running /or/ a different way to set the restore point Tx
