I have a toshiba laptop that was infected with some downloader trojan. Norton Internet Security caught and resolved the file. After reboot, when typing in the password the desktop background picture comes up, I get a "Loading your Settings" for about 5 seconds, then the screen flashes really fast, then I get a "Logging off" and it takes me back to the log-in screen.... This happens under local Administrator account and in All Safe modes,,,,, to include safe mode with command prompt.... On Google search it pulled up a similar issue and suggested that it was a missing file called userinit.exe or a wuaupdater.exe file that was missing.... I slaved…

by Guest R. McCarty- 7 replies

Just a warning to users who update their Adobe Shockwave. Symantec has a new agreement to piggy-back their software into the download. From Adobe's website: How is Norton Security Scan from Symantec connected to Shockwave Player? As part of a recent distribution agreement with Symantec, Adobe will offer its customers the option to install the free Norton Security Scan software as part of the Shockwave Player installation process. Only customers who accept the Norton Security Scan offer will download the Norton Security Scan software. Those who decline the offer will download and install only Shockwave Player. Norton Security Scan is only offered to users who…

>We're always here to laugh and cry. >*TimDaniels* Thank you Tim - but your reward is I'm back :-) Got all tangled up trying to get Users Names to agree with those listed in Explorer. Lost a lot of friends on that one. Anyway, we got that resolved, however, now it appears after I add a new user via C/P User Accounts, the new account name does not appear in Explorer, event after logging off and/or rebooting. Any suggestions on how to make a new User Account appear correctly as a Folder in Explorer? WinXp SP2 and not on a domain. Dave

hi im using a laptop with a processor (2GHz) and (2Gb) of RAM system: Windows Xp pro SP2, 2002 edition, updated to SP3 >>> MY PROBLEM is: I need to work on many programs that need memory, such as MS-Office Word ( with a document over 40 pages with pictures), Autocad-2009, MATLAB-R2007a(mathematical program), ANSYS11 (for finite elements analysis for engineering). those programs eat the RAM, and sometimes i need to work on more than 3 programs at once. XP: Registry Keys, Malware
by Guest Scott- 11 replies

What role do registry keys play in malware? Is a registry key sufficient or does there need to be a malware program on my computer? Details. I run Ad-Aware 2008 Free every week and on Aug 5 if found Virtumonde. According to Lavasoft, this is in the top 5 of threats going around now. File name: yacscom.dll in C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger My notes do not mention that I checked to see if Ad-Aware also found registry keys. Before removing it, I tested AVG-Free, Spybot, and Yahoo Anti Spy and they did not find Virtumonde. Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool did not find anything with the July and August updates Yahoo Anti Spy, however, di…

restoring sp2 from sp3
by Guest Dan- 2 replies
It's delicate but I've lost the registration key of my sp2. After installing sp3 I have been asked for the key within 30 days. As I'm in the last week and still not found the key, the only options seem to be either to buy another license or to revert to my sp2 status. This last possibility can be achieved through "restore points" ? Thanks DAN

File Open Screen Options
by Guest Jan- 2 replies

When I open Word, I am able to configure the Open File screen to add various folders on the left-hand side. Is there a way to do that in other programs? For instance, if I am in Quicken and I click on Open File, while I do get the larger part of the screen displaying all of my Quicken files, the side bar (on the left) only has My Recent Documents, Desktop, My Documents, My Computer, and My Network Places. The same is true for some of the othe programs I use. I would like to be able to configure the side bar to include other folders that are used more frequently than 5 that are listed.

by Guest CB- 4 replies

I upgraded from Office 2000 to Office 2007. After it installed the Desktop Search function I find that minimized programs do not show up on task bar as they used to. So now, when I want to go back to another loaded in use program I have to Ctl-Alt-Del to get to task manager and switch to the program. How do I restore the ability to see the running programs on the bottom of my task bar ? Any help would be greatly appreciated. CB
