I have a PC and I finally tried to play a DVD in it but the region isn't set. I am an administrator, but each time I try to set the region (with or without the movie in the drive) it says I don't have the privileges. I also have full 5 changes left. Can anybody help with with this.

SFC /scannow
by Guest Jorge Bravo- 5 replies

I lost (temporarily) IE, so I decided to do sfc /scannow. Soon after it started it asked for the disk for XP Professional SP3. Problem is that my system is XP Home and not Porfessional. Wen I inserted the Toshiba Recovery Disk in he drive, SFC told me it was the wrong one... Anyone knows what is going on? Is this a common problem? Thank you

strange SendTo and Recent folder issue
by Guest Tim.T- 1 reply

1)I'm the only user on this PC, the Administrator. I'm running XP Home Edition. When I go to the 'C:\Documents and Settings\Me\SendTo' folder there is only two items in it: 'Desktop (create shortcut)', and 'Mail Recipient'. But if I actually right-click an item and choose 'SendTo', I find there are 13 location shortcuts listed, including the defaults - all the others are partitions in my drive. I remember putting them there, but why do they show up on the right-click menu, and not in the actual 'SendTo' folder itself? The shortcuts are not hidden; I've checked (folder just says two items, none hidden), and they do work! They just seem to be absent from the folder.…

XP Boot Issue, Strange Problem.
by Guest Jeff- 12 replies

Hello everyone, I am having a very strange XP reboot issue...I have XP SP3 and now whenever I need to reboot (I usually keep my machine on all the time) it starts back up...gets to the normal XP screen (with the moving bar) and then goes to a black screen and just stops. No error, no beeps, nothing. However, every so often it will actually boot up and then continue to work fine...until I need to reboot again. There's nothing in the Event Log and no other noticeable error....all data is good and all applications seem to work fine on boot up (when I can finally get it going again). If I hit F8 when booting, it seems to always be able to get into Safe M…

Video and the mouse
by Guest FrankO- 0 replies

Most come here to share problems as I have on hundreds of occasions. today I wish to share a positive solution to a video problem, shifting and flickering especially after moving he mouse or using the scroll wheel. On a whim, I decided to switch to another mouse having a little newer technology - a laser mouse. Well guess what sports fans - no more shifty-nervous-jittery video for me, just a very crisp, brilliant, and sharp display. This is a very simple thing and often overlooked, I suppose, but it worked for me.

Printer Icons not displaying
by Guest Wendy- 3 replies
I have a customer whose printer icons no longer show. Next to the printer queues, it now shows the generic icon for unrecognized programs. There is a printer icon in system32\shell32.dll that I can use in the folder options and file types, but I don't know which file needs to be associated with the designated printer icon.

Afternoon Gents, I'm runnning XP MCE on my main computer and i use the Media Centre alot to record a daily program. Now I would like the computer to be in hibernation, awake when the programme needs to be recorded, record the programme and then switch itself off when the recording is finished. is there a setting in the background or a programme i can install that will turn the computer off/put it back into the hibernated state? I do 8 hours days at work and it's wasting alot of electricity when it's not recording the programme. cheers Andy

Suppose I want to copy a file or folder from C:\ to D:\, but with the same folder path structure. For example, if I copy C:\MyFolder\MyFile.doc to D:\, it should save to D:\MyFolder\MyFile.doc, creating MyFolder in D: if necessary. If I copy C:\MyFolder\Songs\ to D:\, it should copy all files in Songs\ to D:\MyFolder\Songs\, creating folders as needed. Perhaps the xcopy command do it, but I prefer to drag/drop using Explorer. How would I do it?

Question on Concurrent connection for XP Pro
by Guest Bob- 1 reply

I know that XP Pro only supports up to 2 concurrent connections. What if I install a PHP forum on a XP pro? Does it mean that only 2 users can access the site at one time? Or am I wrong? Thanks.

How to disable additional printer installation.
by Guest Frank Church- 5 replies
Windows XP tends to redetect printers and add them over and over again, resulting in many duplicates of the same printer name. Is there a way to disable detection of new printers, or revert to the original printer if it is unplugged and reinserted? I would also like to disable addition of printers altogether, unless the admin enables to allow printers to be installed, even for Administrator accounts. Is there some way to do this? /vfclists
