XP can't copy file 4GB or above !
by Guest penang@catholic.org- 14 replies

I only recently started to do video editing. The other day I downloaded the video footages of my sis' wedding to my comp, and the avi file is larger than 4GB, about 4.2GB Now the problem comes. I can't move that file, nor copy it, which means it's stuck at the "my pictures" directory. It seems that XP can only copy and/or move files that are smaller than the 4 GB size,. I know that I have the option of getting a new comp with Vista installed, or I get the 64-bit version of XP, or I can cut the big file up into smaller portions. But they aren't the thing I am looking for right now. So let me post this question to all the gurus here: Is there a utility or…

I'm using a laptop (Lenovo T60 XP Pro) with external monitor placed on its left side. I'm configuring my my windows XP to use the external monitor as a second monitor with extended desktop. Although I can configure the place of the second monitor to be on the left side, when I disconnect my laptop from the port replicatior and connect it again, the external monitor goes back to the right side. Dual Boot - Two Physical Drives
by Guest Mac McMicmac- 16 replies

I have two physical hard drives (IDE) - each running a single copy of XP Pro/SP2. How can I have the computer somehow prompt me for which HD I want to use when the computer starts up? I have been physically switching the power cable and IDE ribbon cable to the drive I want to use, while leaving the other drive completely disconnected (both power and IDE). My understanding of "standard" dual boot techniques (which I could easily google for) is that those techniques assume two OS installations on a single hard drive... which is NOT my situation... thus the question here. Thanks!

Upon booting my system (XP Prof.), the Windows Install program always boots and asks for a non-existent program, forcing me to have to close it down manually with ctrl-alt-delete sequence. Any idea why the Windows Install program boots automatically? Thanks, Rod

When I create a new folder, it is read-only. I launched the windows explorer folder from cygwin using 'cygstart '. Is there a windows- specific reason why the new folder is read-only? I'm working in a secondary hard drive."d:". I am also using a domain account. Thanks.

We have finally scored a Thai keyboard, and need to set up (perhaps Messenger?) so my wife can talk to her family in Bangkok. Any suggestions from anyone who currently does this? In my old Win98se I used a small program called "ThaiKbrd.exe" IIRC. I am new to XP and would welcome any detailed explanation on a suitable set up Thanks Rodney
