Windows Vista and AVG Firewall
by Guest Ginoman- 10 replies

Hi Everyone -- I recently purchased a new laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium installed. I also purchased AVG Internet Security package and had no problem installing all of the security features until I came to the AVG Firewall. I keep getting a warning saying that the AVG Firewall has stopped and that it wasn't able to initialize. Now, I turned off the Windows Firewall and tried re-installing the AVG software and I still get the same result. Any ideas on why I can't get the AVG Firewall to activate? Is there a compatibility problem with Windows Vista? -- Thanks in advance, Ginoman

Win XP Error 10010 causing grief !
by Guest wayland- 3 replies

I only have access to dial-up in my rural dwelling. Frequently when connected, my PC freezes and attempts to kill non-responding applications doesn't work no matter how I try. Only a power-down restores the PC to normal. I have the latest XP updates, tons of memory, virus & ad-ware scans regularly etc. The Event viewer shows error with DCOM, error 10010. "The server did not register with DCOM within the required timeout". Can someone offer assistance to help me get rid of this recurring problem? Thanks!!

Re: Reclaim a partition - Solved! First of all, special thanks to Dobey, and all others who replied. One of the responders (I'm sorry, I'm not sure who), suggested creating another Secure Zone and then deleting it. I was dubious of that, until I ran across the same suggestion in Acronis's FAQ database from their online forum. It worked perfectly! Back to normal now. Again my thanks to Dobey and the others. every morning (just whispering)
by Guest Serhan Ogan- 1 reply

Hello. Every morning around 08:00 AM I sit in front of my PC, check the weather channel, my e-mails, same news channels, then fly w/ MSFS for half an hour and leave for work. Wonder if I can schedule certain programs to run at pre-designated times? I know you can schedule "scan disc" and stuff but how about MSFS? It takes a while to load and a minute adds up to something like 7 hours anually.

JEP - User Account Issues
by Guest jack- 0 replies

I have XP of course, and my User account shows "my realname" as one account as administrator and a "guest" account. When I open up Windows Explorer it shows most of my files being saved under "user." In the file tree under Documents and Settings it shows accounts for "Administrator" "All Users" "Default user" and "user" It doesn't show my "my realname" account. (i.e. johndoe) Anyway it seems that no matter if I am logged on "my realname" there are for instance, in Rules and Alerts of Outlook, a message that comes at times that I am not allowed to set those types of rules because of my permissions? Why? It says I'm administrator in the User Account are…

Recycle Bin Question
by Guest Joy- 5 replies
I was helping a friend with his computer today and he has something I've never seen before. His Recycle Bin is full of .bak files that seem to be from a variety of sources: Some are Outlook Express (including one that says Inbox and one that says Drafts!), but also files that he has in My Documents. Does anyone know how these would have landed up in the Recycle Bin and with a .bak extension? He's afraid to delete them in case he might list the originals.

Upload sites
by Guest Curt Christianson- 4 replies

good afternoon all, If I've already asked this, *I* can't find it. Back in the old days when I had AOL, they would give you a small"web site", the kind you could upload a screenshot of a problem for others to see, without including attachment to posts. I no longer belong to AOL (Hah), but are there small sites available for free-maybe that would do the same thing? I don't want to make a web site, but just perhaps,"look at this crazy screen-shot--does this make any sense to you? A posting like this would last a couple of days at most. -- MyTIA, Curt Windows Support Center http://www.aumha.org Practically Nerded,... http://dundats.mvps.org…

Two users on the PC. At the Welcome Screen, passowrd can typed into either user. However, once the password has been accepted, one of the users will not accept any data from the keyboard, as if the keyboard is faulty. If the other user is selected, by entering the password, the keyboard works correctly for that user. There is nothing in the Start Menu/ Programs/Startup folder for either user. Where else is specific software loaded for a user? -- Doug
