by Guest Bob Johnson- 3 replies

I'm rebuilding a computer and installing XP Pro. As part of the rebuilding process I deleted the existing partition, created a new one, and now I'm formatting it with NTFS. I have two options - Format and Format (Quick). What is the difference between the "Quick" option and the other [not quick] option? Thanks.

no quick launch or desktop icons
by Guest LyndaFaye- 1 reply

I recently moved and just hooked the internet back up. Before I did so everything appeared to be woring properly. After I got hooked back up and rebooted, all my desktop features (icons and quicklaunch bar) appeared on the screen for about 30 seconds then dissapeared. All that is on the screen in my wallpaper. Nothing happens when I right click either. ( no icon options) The only way I can even get a page up is because my msn messenger pops up and I go to my e-mail and a page opens. If I close a page or minimize it it is gone.

PC shutdown problem with .NET
by Guest Surfer- 2 replies

I encountered the problem with .NET program CSC.exe (under Microsoft.NET\framework\20.507.27 ) reported couldn't be shutdown everytime I shutdown my Windows XP SP2. I had to manually shut down this program in order for it to continue to shutdown. Any idea why this happen? The problem happened after I installed the ATI2600XT graphic card with its Catalysis Control Centre (V7.90) drivers/utilities. Was it caused by this program? It said it needs NET 2.0 Framework for it to operate properly. I'd checked with the "Add/Rome Program" of the Control Panel, My system had ..NET Framework 1.1, 2.0 and 3.0 installed. Any conflict for these 3 versions to be inst…

Activating XP Pro - Max Number of Times?
by Guest Smithers- 2 replies
Back in 2009 I had a MSDN Universal subscription that of course came with XP Pro. In the past few years I have reimaged/reinstalled my development computers probably 10-15 times or so. I just reimaged again yesterday and when I went to activate the copy I received a popup stating that I had exceeded the maximum number of times I could activate. I called the phone number and got it activated that way so I'm at least up and running. My question: What is the maximum number of times that XP Pro - from an old MSDN subscription can be activated? Where can I learn more about this whole activation thing. Thanks.

windows thinking
by Guest rb- 0 replies

Need some thoughts on this one. In my everyday windows WIN XP/OE, I have my windows incoming set at maybe 15 or so to go through. During this set, I have maybe one or three emails coming in that won't let me delte. They are different kinds and spaces. Not necessary the top one or two, or whatever. What I do is simply hit shift/delete. At first, I though I might have gotten too many in the recycle bin. Benn at the hospital for about 10 days, and forgot to delete when I got back. I went ahead and deleted those. Seemed ok for a day, but later right back to the problem. What is happening?

saving files to CD or DVD
by Guest moonraker- 2 replies

Hi, I am having trouble saving files to CD's. Firstly, could you advise me as to how I can gain access to the technical info relating to my "D" and "E" drive, i.e make speeds etc, I know you can call this up on the PC but have forgotten where!! Secondly, if either of these are just CD writers, which are the best type of CD's to use. Thirdly, if I am unable to save to the CD's, how can I best diagnose what is wrong. Many thanks Steve

difficulty loading Windows XP on a machine with Unix
by Guest waterst152- 1 reply

Struggling loading the original XP disk on HW that was configured with Unix OS. HW surpasses XP requirements. I've reset my BIO's to look at the CD drive (first) on boot-up. I put the original XP CD in the drive and reboot. The system spins up the CD (light flashes, hums for a few seconds) but the SW does NOT appear to load. After a few moments the Unix login prompt appears. If I login I'm back in, I'm sitting in unix. Please advise. Thanks
