I have been trying to play video's on and off for several weeks now. The video either appears as a green screen or not at all, plain black. I have downloaded VCL Media Player as referred to in post titled "Out of Sync Video". The video and the audio played in sync. So my question is why is there no video while watching WMP 11? Tyler

If auto-logon is enabled, "network cable is unplugged"
by Guest kimiraikkonen- 4 replies

I've posted that kind of message with no help and i'm strange and not sure if it's and XP problem, it seems. I've updated my NICs driver but if i use a password to logon my PC, no problem about displaying a "connected" LAN icon in taskbar, but if i enable auto-logon (no password), usually i get "network cable unplugged" icon in taskbar with a liar, because although that icon is displayed, i can browse all the sites (not cached, new ones) with no problem. On Win2k Pro Sp4, i didn't see that kind of problem. What do you recommend? Thanks.

I Screwed up Windows XP install
by Guest Doug- 7 replies

Hi All, OK, I screwed up. On a friends HP Pavilion ze4430us Laptop I was attempting to do a clean install of Windows XP. The disks that came with the computer were labeled a bit strange, but essentially there was an Operating System Disk, and a set of 5 CD's all called Windows XP recovery disks. I tried the Windows XP disk first and seemed to work fine, but there were lots of drivers needed to get rid of hardware issues. I thought, what the heck, I'll run the recovery disks in hopes that it would install the correct drivers and all the hardware would be recognized. Well, the computer just shut down several times and trying to run the disk set was a…

I am running XP Home with Service pack 2 regularly updated on a PC with Athlon XP +2400 processor. The system shipped 4 years ago with 265 MB of RAM. Soon after purchase I added another 512 MB. The performance was much improved. Recently I added another 1 GB, making 1 3/4 GB total. There is some improvement in performance but almost never is more than 30% of the available memory in use. At the same time an amount of virtual memory is in use equivalent to about 4/5 of the amount of main memory. Is this normal? Or is there some adjustment I should make to allow more of the main memory to function? When fitting I followed the instructions to put the smallest…

by Guest Prancer12- 6 replies

If I right click on the Start button in XP and choose properties, while in Taskbar and Start Menu Properties and Custom Notifications the user can't change the behaviors. No drop down box will display. I have run TaskManager_Reset.reg, toolbarsgreyedout.reg, xp_taskbar_desktop_fixall.vbs I tried to choose Restore Defaults button. The user is an administrator of his machine. Enable drag and dropping in the Customize Start menu is checked. Machine has been re-booted. Can't google any other option nor find on Microsoft pages. Help will be greatly appreciated.

Textpad: How to make the changed settings permanent?
by Guest qazmlp1209@rediffmail.com- 1 reply

Is there an option in Textpad to make the settings permanent? Currently, after opening the file using the Textpad, I change the 'Font size' and also the word wrap settings from their default settings. I need to do this always, and the settings get applied only for the currently opened file and not even for all the files. Also, these settings get reset when the Textpad is opened again. Is there a way to make these settings permanent?

I've just discovered a 2GB file in c:\WINNT called MEMORY.DMP which is dated March 2006. Presumably whatever problem prompted the dump it is long-since sorted. Is there any danger in deleting this file? Grateful for advice.

XP-Domain
by Guest Peter F- 2 replies

Hi All, I have recently purchased a Mcafee product (EPO 3.6.1) which i have installed on my home server. This program then allows me to configure and update any pc connected to the network. My question is i have an XP pro machine and 4 user profiles are shown on startup. When i joined the domain i only got the cntl alt-delete option upon logon. This is no good as the individual users logons need to reamin at startup because we all have different profiles etc. Is there any way in which i could join the domain and still get the 4 user profiles on long screen? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Regards. -- Flinty
