My Computer Displays Worng Drive Label
by Guest hurricane1951@gmail.com- 3 replies

OK, I have a problem I've never seen before. Ever since I built my computer I've named (labeled) my C: drive C- Drive and my D: drive D-Drive. I've followed this convention for years and years. I bought new USB drives recently, and named those drives USB-01 and USB-02. When I rebooted my system, My Computer/Explorer now displayed the D: drive as USB-01. I can't seem to get it to change, even though Properties shows the label as still D-Drive, Disk Management still shows it as D-Drive. Only My Computer displays the wrong name. I've renamed it several times with no effect. Any idea what's wrong with My Computer?

Strange moniker........... Does that mean you like getting porked up the poop shoot while in mountainous plains and all the time watching a Clint Eastwood flick? Sounds homosexual to me.

IIS install problem on XP SP2

As a follow up to thread "IIS install problem on XP SP2" (found at http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.windowsxp.general/browse_thread/thread/c5c8718b8f675562/22f35ceb948c9461%2322f35ceb948c9461): I was able to follow Method 2 (mentioned in the above thread) until it came to using the "xpsp2" command. (Unknown command.) Once I realized the downloadable file WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe was the same thing as xpsp2.exe, I was able to rename it and continue with the solution. It finally worked and I was able to install IIS! Hope this shortcuts someone's journey.

Google question.. one other

Just got a new laptop with XP. I've also had a desktop with XP for 5 years. Google is fine when online, but the new computer has something called 'Google Desktop' and another called 'Toolbar for IE'. I'd really like to delete both, but don't know the repercussions. Very persistant and intrusive programs. Any thoughts? One other. When online, I usually have no trouble connecting with URLs. With the new laptop however I'm occasionally getting a MS error box that says "Invalid URL" and it won't continue. The same URL on my old machine works just fine. I tried turning off any cookie filters in IE but no luck. Again, any thoughts would be much appreciated. …

Hi, I've seen similar posts all over the internet but have found no solution to this problem. When I open my AC 97 Audio Sound Effect Manager from control panel, then click 'OK' to close it, I get the following error: An exception occurred while trying to run "C:\windows\system32\shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL "C:\windows\system32\ALSNDMGR.cpl",Sound Effect Manager" It was working fine last night and today it did this. I've tried a system restore, RegSrv32 shell32.dll, spyware scan with spybot and virus scan w/ mcafee. No luck. I just reformatted and finished installing the basics so I could create a disk image but now I don't want to cause I've got this e…

Sorry but I can't find my post from last night. Related to "won't boot troubleshoot guide" above. Running a RAM test with Memtest-86 v3.3 that is in Ultimate Boot Disk. So far it has been running over 2 hours and I have 534 errors and counting. I'm on test #7. How long does this test program run? I have no idea whether these errors are "within range" or what.. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you, Steve T.

Hey Everyone. When it comes to technical things on a PC Im not the shapest tool in the shed.(lol) Last night I experienced my first failure with System Restore. I tried a few different dates and got the same response as Martin Sachs (11/13/04) I read through the thread and it seems he understands it more then I do! I am using regular XP home addition. Could someone list step by step how to dis-able the system restore file, and then re-enabling it. I am not even sure I would know how to find where those options are. Im not sure if it will work as was noted by others. But Im willing to give it a shot. If you all could give me a hand it would be appreci…

system restore
by Guest ras- 10 replies

Hello, I read somewhere that System restore should not be used to go back to far. If so, how far back is it safe to go. Reason for asking is my Epson Printer has stopped working. Been to Eson help and they have run out of ideas. They suggest trying printer out on another PC. I do not know of anyone who wants to possibly risk inheriting a copy of my problems. Thought I'd keep going back until (hopefully) it started working. Any help greatfully appeciated. Regards RAS
