I ruined my Word CD...

[MS WinXP Home SP2; OE 6; IE 6; Dell Dimension XPS T450MHz Pentium III; 385MB RAM; AVG Free Version 7.5.503; spybot S&D; ad-aware; cable modem; WordPerfect8; Lexmark Laser printer "Optra E310"; Windows Media Player]. I hope this is the correct forum for my question? I accidentally ruined my Word CD and miraculously Microsoft had consented to send me another one for free...except they discontinued it and didn't have any left to send me. I don't mind being without Word since I have WordPerfect8 as word processor; but I seriously worry about losing what I have in Word. Any suggestions? Thanks ever so much! Adela

WindowsXP SP 3 Just a couple of minutes ago I attempted to use fixmbr command from a Recovery Console cd(a burned cd image file of recovery console) everything went fine. I saw the command prompt window flash and it even gave me the warning aboutm proceeding. But whrn I rebooted grub(linux bootloader) was still there. There is nothing wrong with my computer mind you, I can boot in to either system. The only reason I am doing this is to make ntldr my bootloader. Why didn't fixmbr work?

Updating computer with no internet connection/Remove IE7 from SP3?
by Guest Paul Chow- 9 replies

I have a situation where I have a WinXP SP2 computer (Compaq) with no internet connection. I would like to apply all of the missing updates & patches to it. I have a SP3 CD that would probably be the easiest way to update the computer but I dont want IE7. Can IE7 be removed or de-selected from the install? I also have another XP SP2 computer at different location (Dell) that has an internet connection and is up to date via Windows update (no IES7). The computer is set to download, but not install updates. Can I copy the Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder to the first computer (it is completely different hardware)?

I used Acronis to backup a 40GB drive and then restored to a 70GB drive. I verified that the new partition is the active partition. However, I'm just getting a flashing cursor. What trick am I missing to perform a simple task like this. IBM is of no help, of course. -- Thanks in advance, Les Caudle

Hi. I'm using MS Office Home and Student 2007 with XP SP3. Sometimes, not always, when I close a Word doc I get the following error pop-up. "Microsoft Office Word has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the Inconvenience. The information you were working on may be lost. Microsoft Office Word can try to recover it for you." "Recover my work and restart Microsoft Office Word." "Send Error Report - Don't Send" I select "Don't Send: and it then opens a blank Word doc. Help would be appreciated. Thanks. oldmanlat NJ
