Can someone please tell me the EXACT steps using the Windows Home Edition CD how to run a Windows repair install. Thanks. If you were to include instructions about how to avoid having to enter a password in order to use my PC every day, I'd appreciate that, too. Thanks, again.

Issues with XP SP3
by Guest GW- 5 replies

I have just upgraded to SP3, but met up with some problems associated with keys. First, I have Chinese and Japanese input method installed. But after the upgrade, the ctrl + space and alt + shift key for swiching between input methods no longer work in some (not all) programs, e.g. Microsoft Word, Internet Explorer. But they do work with Notepad. Second, the Google Desktop search bar (the bar that appears when hitting "ctrl" twice") no longer appears after hitting "ctrl" twice. I am sure this is with SP3 since no similar problem occurs until I installed it on my HP laptop. I have successfully replicated it with another HP laptop, btw.

by Guest bcags7- 6 replies

Hello everyone...I'm trying to use Remote Assistance to fix some things on my girlfriend's computer. Getting the error message: "A Remote Assistance connection could not be established because the DNS name of the remote computer could not be resolved." I've read through some previous threads on this topic and tried everything but can't get it to work. We are using Windows Live Messenger to establish the connection and both computers have Windows Messenger installed (the one that comes with XP). Both of us are using a wireless router connected to the internet with a cable modem (me) and DSL modem (her). Both routers have UPnP enabled. We are both able to …

Hello. I have installed a new fresh version of windows XP and I found I cannot install my own set of OpenType fonts into the system (from katalog). Does anyone encounter such problem like mine? I have tried everything. Corel's Font Navigator (says it cannot load fonts) then as I though it faulty program, i tried Font Expert but it says exactly the same. After cheking Extensis Suitcase Font Manager, I thought I have faulty set of fonts but my friend gave me a well working OpenType font which works perfectly and it happens exactly the same with those fonst. Where is the problem that I can't install any OpenType fonts into the system? TrueType fonts…

Hi My problem is that when I highlight my photo and push the open button at the bottom of the page. The picture image is not transferring to my project to modify and print. I noticed this was not happening after I had ran a program to clean my computer of registry errors and unwanted files. I don't know if this is the problem. So I uninstalled MSPI2002 and reinstalled it, but with the same result. Any help would be appreciated since this critical to my business thanks, Global

XP Pro won't boot after Windows Update
by Guest 3 Cats- 6 replies

Life was good until 2 days ago. Then Windows Update downloaded 5 new updates. Now Win XP Pro 32 won't boot. "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupted:" \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM. I used my XP Installation Disk to load Recovery Console and typed "r" to initiate repair. The system then just sits at the C:WINNT> prompt. How do I continue with the repair to get the system to boot? Do you think the Windows Update is unrelated? My C drive is a RAID array with 2 SATA disks in RAID 0. Do Raid drivers need to be loaded before Recovery Console can do it's job? Thank you very much for your help.

sharing files?
by Guest Jo-Anne- 4 replies

Now that I have my new notebook computer configured much like my old desktop one (WinXP SP3, IE7, OE6), I'd like to be able to have all my datafiles on both computers. The desktop computer is connected to a wireless router, and the notebook has a wireless card that makes use of that router. I've managed to enable printer sharing, but I don't know if I also have file sharing--or even quite what that means. I'd be grateful if someone could point me to some good places to read about my options. Thanks much! Jo-Anne

How bypass "Font is already installed" message?
by Guest Cirene- 4 replies
I have over 1000 fonts that I've backed up. (I had to reformat my drive.) Now I try to copy/paste the fonts into the c:\windows\fonts directory. For most of them I get the message: The Xxxx font is already installed. To install a new version, first remove the old version. Is there a way to paste the fonts and bypass this message? Or is there a better way to restore all my fonts? Thanks!

Start up for windows
by Guest jp4winns- 1 reply

Upon start up of my computer the message that is displayed is "Delete restoration data and proceed to system boot menu". I read that this has been a problem for users before. The help from microsoft tells you to actually select that option. However help also states that the keyboard and mouse usually will not work, which is my situation. So, how do I select that option if the keyboard and mouse are not working. Need suggestions desperately.

HELP!! I use Windows XP- I get a message which reads copy PowerDVD.sim to PowerDVD folder. I ask another group about this and they suggested I delete PowerDVD altogether and install a different program. WELL- I tried (by using an uninstall program) to remove PowerDVD and then downloaded Media Player Classic, etc. However, when I try to play a DVD, I still get the message- AND, PowerDVD stills appears to be on my system. WHAT NOW? -- TY-J
