Offline files nightmare -- someone please HELP
by Guest SilvrT- 1 reply

I have PC's on a LAN. These PC's are on Win XP SP2. They are all new as of a year ago. For 2 of the users, I cannot stop Offline files. They (the users) have local profiles on their PC's. I have disabled caching of the shares and not only that, but the shares and data have been moved to a new server. These PC's still want to sync offline files with the old server and those files/shares, etc have all been moved to a totally different server. I have read and read and read so much about this that I am worn out. I have removed the PC's from the domains and unchecked Enable Offline files as that seems the only way the associated check box is active (or accessible to m…

File rename not appearing until F5 refresh
by Guest Brian Cryer- 9 replies

We have a small office in which we have project files shared from a Windows 2003 standard server. One of our users (xp pro, sp2) has the problem where she can create a new folder or rename a file/folder in this share using windows explorer but windows explorer doesn't then show the change unless she hits F5 (refresh). No-one else has this problem. I don't see anything untoward in the event logs of either her pc or the server. Whilst I don't see anything to indicate a need, I will be scheduling a disk check tonight just in case it helps. Any ideas? TIA. -- Brian Cryer http://www.cryer.co.uk/brian

Hi, every time I boot up I have a balloon which tells me I have files waiting to be written to CD. Firstly. how do I remove the files waiting in the "files waiting to be written to CD" folder. (presumably this will stop the balloon appearing) Secondly, at boot up we also have several balloons appear one after another telling us that the wireless network is connected etc How do I stop them appearing. Many thanks Steve

How to change location of existing User desktop folder

My daughter, who shares my machine, has become a Photoshop maven. I wasn't following what she was up to, but unfortunately she seems to have stored 9GB (!) of files on my C: drive, on the desktop. I need to get these moved elsewhere, and (ideally) set her desktop location to that drive. I have in mind a 250 GB USB drive I have on the system. I could either just move her Desktop and My Documents files and set new pointers in registry, or perhaps move her whole "User" profile? Is there an easy and safe way to accomplish this? I have backed up, naturally, but if the backup for some reason failed and the move resulted in a mess-up, I would be in for major …

Another "Applying computer settings" issue - please advise (slightly long read). Hello, Running into an issue with PCs taking a long time to boot when connected to an external network, stuck at the "Applying Computer Settings" screen. For typically 10-15 minutes, if not more. Basically this happens for notebook users, that are connected to an external network (not our corporate one, that has a domain controller, etc on it) such as a home network. The notebook will take forever to boot (stuck at that same screen), unless it is not connected to any network. This did not happen previously but started happening a while back. Not related to the APC softwar…

Hi all. I don't even know which group to post this. I have winxp with sp2. I can't connect to microsoft sites (updates, hotmail, etc. ) Most sites load great with my cable internet. I formatted my drive and started fresh with a new xp install, with no change. I thought it might have been IE7, so I tried IE6. No change there, either. If anyone has suggestions, or which group to ask for help, I welcome replies. My big hang up is that my flight sim 9 suddenly quits (just disappears). Thanks.

Just today I upgraded to Kas 7 AV, it told me that My comodo firewall was not compatable with it, and it had to be removed before Kas would install, anybody know why? is Kas internet security worth the bucks, to go from just AV to the internet security package, I see that it also incorporates malware, spyware scans and malicious script, is there anyway to get comodo to work with Kas 7 I did read up on their forum, but not anough time to read up in detail, so I can be informed like I want.

map a drive, log out, in , drive disconnected
by Guest chasgl- 2 replies

I have two XP machines one is a domain machine one is a workgroup machine. When I map a drive from one to the other and check "reconnect at logon" and restart the drive is disconnected. It still shows up on the machine but I have to connect and give the password again to get it to work. Since I want things to happen automatically at login this is too late. This happens even if I connect as another user using the login for the host machine. I tried creating a user account on the domain machine for the workgroup machine but I couldn't. Any suggestions? Thanks, Chas

Installing Updates Message
by Guest rogeepete- 2 replies

I posted this recently and received a reply from John Haverty. I thought my problem was solved but it reappeared and continues. After Start, Turn Off Computer, I get the choice of installing updates. I choose this, get to Logging Off, Saving Settings, and then installing update 1 of 1, Do Not Turn Off or Unplug, etc. I must go through three of these cycles including the installing update 1 of 1, until the computer shuts down. When I want to shut down the next time, I have to go through the three cycles again. I know I can select Shut Down without installing updates, but what is going on? Thanks Roger -- Roger

screen saver
by Guest Tim_S- 0 replies

The screen saver time out in the registry if changed doesn't take effect until the person log's off and back on again. I know this is normal by design. I would like to know if anyone has been able to find a workaround from having to log-off and back on to the change stick. For instance I open regedit and manually edit the key HKCU\control panel\desktop key and edit the screensavetimeout setting to from 1 minute to 2 minutes and exit regedit. The screen saver will still engage at 1 minute mark. If I then use the desktop properties tool it still shows 1 minute. If I just exit the desktop tool the tool resets the registry key back to 1 minute. …
