Highlighting windows
by Guest OKville- 1 reply

Hi. Is there a way to highlight a window as the mouse moves over it, instead of having to click somewhere to make it active? If I have 3 or 4 windows open on the desktop I would like to use each one as I move the mouse, instead of having to click on it first. I hope I explained this correctly. Thank you for any help.

System Admin Error
by Guest Kris- 1 reply

I have been reading all the ways to fix a system when the system decides to lock you out of things even when you are the administrator and I have tried the majority of the suggestions. So far nothing has worked. I did enter safe mode and create a new admin account for me, but my problem so far has been getting it to see all of my files from the old account. Most importantly I can't seem to get it to find my Money2005 file. Can someone please let me know how to make sure I don't lose the info in the old account when switching and deleting the new one. I have tons of pics and music and docs that i can't afford to lose. -- Kris

Office 2003
by Guest XP via WindowsKB.com- 8 replies

I just installed XP PRO on my machine. I try to install office 2003. Then, it auto plays. It says it can't find a certain file. I try to open it again and it is completely gone from "My Computer". I don't know what the file is called because it will not let me open setup anymore. Neither will it let me open the CD drive. The only way it will let me take the CD out is if I turn the computer off and turn it back on again. It also says that the disc is currupt and isn't able to be used, but it will work on my other machine. Office 2003 is the only disc that will do that. What do I do??? -- XP Message posted via WindowsKB.com http://www.windowskb.com/Uwe/Forum…

Why can't I get Nero 7 off the hard drive with Add/Remove program?
by Guest monty1945@lycos.com- 10 replies
When I tried to do this, it took a look time in the retrieving information stage, a few error messages appeared, and it never got to the next stage, so I canceled it. This happened three times. Can I just go locate all the Nero files and manually delete them, or is there a better way? Thanks.

Which CD-keys are activated?
by Guest PJ- 2 replies
I've inherited from the last IT manager a stack of Windows XP Pro packets...large blue and orange folders with CD-Keys printed on the inside (no sticker) and Version 2002 printed at the bottom right. A few have pc names hand-written on them, but the majority don't. Does Microsoft maintain an query-able list of CD-keys that have been activated or some way to find out what machine is tied to which CD- key? THX, --PJ

Windows Recovery Console
by Guest Ed Pyle- 2 replies

I installed Windows recovery console and the "cmdcons" directory is there and there is an entry for the recovery console in the boot.ini file. After installation I thought that I would have a choice at boot-up of going to Windows XP or to the recovery console. However, it boots directly into Windows. How do I get to the recovery console?

Hello, I have a Windows 2003 domain with Windows XP Pro SP2 clients. One of my clients is claiming his 'Briefcase' randomly disappears and is not aware of a pattern when this happens. For example, he will create a new Briefcase and after a reboot, it will disappear from the Desktop (shortcut) & from windows explorer. Is this a known issue? Please assist. Thank you.

What is real truth behind power saving options
by Guest Blackberry- 12 replies

Hi All I work in a number of schools and I'm constantly having to turn off every available power saving option in their desktops and laptops to try and remove 'PC's crashed' false alarms raised by teachers. At the mo, I use the following settings on WinXP Pro SP2 machines (desktop and laptop): Screensaver: 15 mins Turn Off Monitor: 20 mins Turn Off Hard Disks: never System Standby: never System Hibernates: never Are the above settings a bad thing? Are they costing the school money, in light of the fact that they might have 80 machines buzzing away 6 - 7 hours a day? What are the preferred settings? I…
