Inserting a blank disk in RW drive reboots PC!
by Guest Nigel Andrews- 1 reply

I am recently finding my PC re-boots when I insert even any blank DVD in the DVDwriter!! I find then that the PC will keep re-booting until I eject the DVD. Then it seems only if I push the DVD draw (with DVD) back in at a certain point in the boot sequence will it continue to boot up to normal. Before or after that and it will reboot again.. and again! It doesn't happen every time I put a disc in, even if the conditions (apps running etc.) are the same. I don't seem to have autoplay set on this drive, so I don't know why it is even bothering when I load a DVD. Please can anybody help? Thanks Nigel

MFC71.dll issue - new twist
by Guest folderann- 1 reply

Running Vista Business 64. I have a small small MFC app that I wrote in VC++ 2003. Any time I port it to a new XP install, I have to copy various Microsoft DLLs to windows\System32 in order to get the application to run. No worries - it runs. After the Vista 64 install I got the usual error message and copied the file to system32. After I continued to get the same "need mfc71" message, I copied the file into the folder where the application resides and the app ran correctly without the error. Since I have a bunch of these apps, I wonder if I can work around this problem without having to place the same files locally where the app resides. I tried to re…

single logon to network and in the field
by Guest lwilson132- 0 replies

I have a user ABC, domain XYZ who has a customized desktop when connected in our office. Since this is a portable computer, it is used away from the office. We connect multiple machines together in the field using a switch, but the user cannot get his customized desktop since he cannot login to user ABC, domain XYZ in the field. The only way we can connect in the field is to use the login ABC and domain being the name of the local machine. Is there any way in XP to use the same user and domain combination that is used in the office, out in the field?

Netstat does not display any outgoing or listening ports
by Guest WlgSpotter- 0 replies

Hi: I'm finding some strange behaviour for the nststat command on my XP Professional PC at home. Usually, just typing netstat will display all outgoing connections (i.e. web surfing), or netstat -an will display all outgoing and listening ports. However, I've noticed lately that neither of those commands displays anything now - just a blank list. I have to use netstat -ano to get it to display the outgonig and incoming/listening ports. Anyone has any ideas what could have gone wrong? Could it be a registry/permission issue? Thanks.

Window size
by Guest Randy- 7 replies

I seem to be having a problem with the size of some of the "windows" (don't know if this is the right term) that pop up when for example I click on Print and Properties. The right side border (non-adjustable) has moved to the left and is hiding some of the button options, etc. This is only happening on some "windows" and occassionally the bottom end is cut off as well. Sorry if I used the wrong terminology but I hope that someone can figure out what I'm trying to explain and help me fix this. I did some searching in this group for a similar problem but couldn't seem to find anything. Perhaps its because of my lack of knowing what terminology to look for.

by Guest K.Sawyer- 12 replies

My friend bought a computer but didn't realize that she needed to "purchase" the anti-virus after it's trial period ran. They use cable internet service. There was no anti-virus or firewall protection shortly after purchasing the computer. Kids accessed internet and MySpace frequently. I've run Trend Micro and it found over 615 virus's. 2 MS Dos virus's and 1 internet worm. I thought of formatting the drive and reinstalling everything, they have basically nothing on the computer. They are running XP Home Edition. Any advice on how to clean? Should I just format and reinstall from scratch? Below is a report from HiJackThis: Logfile of Trend Micro…
