Went to turn on active desktop and found it is a missing feature on the laptop PC! Went to desktop, RC, properties, desktop, customize desktop, looked for the WEB TAB is it is not there (supposed to be, it is on the tower PC). Can anybody tell me how to get the WEB tab back where it belongs? TIA

PartitionMagic doesn't work!
by Guest Don J- 2 replies

Tell me if there is a better newsgroup to post this in! I am using Windows XP with PartitionMagic 8.0. All of a sudden PartitionMagic showed one of my drives in yellow and marked it as "BAD". It didn't show any of the 4 partitions on the drive. Right clicking the drive, in PartitionMagic, the only commands were "Format" and "Set Active" under "Advanced". Operation under Windows XP was entrirely normal. The 4 partitions showed up in Windows Explorer. I moved all files out of the four partitions, saving them on other hard disks. Once the files were moved out I formatted the individual partittions from Windows Explorer. An inspection of the formatt…

Can't find dongle
by Guest PSRumbagh- 5 replies

I have the electronic circuit analysis program Pspice V6.0 that I am trying to run on my Compaq Presario V2000 laptop that runs on WinXP. The analysis engine of Pspice V6.0 appears to be DOS based and needs a security dongle attached to the RS-232 port. The laptop, that does not have a built in serial port (RS-232), uses a Radio Shack #26-183 USB to RS-232 adapter. Pspice can not find it’s valid security dongle that is attached to the RS-232 adapter, which keeps the program from running. I am using two DOS augmentation programs, TameDos V5.0 and Direct I/O V4.4. Any suggestions on how to help Pspice find it’s security dongle would be appreciated.

My windows that I open keep going inactive. Right in the middle of typing or browsing. I have to keep clicking them to keep them active. I am not sure why it started doing it. One more quick thing is a file that keeps opening a window when I start up my computer. Not major just annoying.

XP Media Center vs XP Pro
by Guest suberjeme- 6 replies

I had a OEM copy of Media Center 2005 installed on my Dell laptop. I want to reinstall using a clean CD free of all the junk that Dell puts on their computers. While using the disk that they provided to reinstall the OS, it began installing some misc. programs (which I don't want...) I have a XP Pro disk from another computer. Will the OEM PIK work with the Pro disk? Or can I get a truly clean Media Center 2005 disk somewhere legally?

Need Recommendations for a Commerical Product that'll Encrypt & Password Protect Backups HI, we need a commerical product back up program eg, Symantec, PCTools or whatever, that's a good back up program that'll 128bit encrypt and password protect daily backups of an Access database. Daily backups are around 330MB and weekly back ups are about one gigabyte. Thanks, Mike

SP System Restore Problem
by Guest pinger- 3 replies

I have XP2002-SP2 and need an assist. I loaded a few Google Plug Ins, I think on Thursday, and at least one of them apparently had not agreed with my system. I have been trying to do a SYSTEM RESTORE and am coming up zeroes. I have chosen several restore points off of the calendar presented and have gone back through 5 or six dates and upon reboot I'm getting a message that the restore was not successful and no changes were made. Any thoughts?

Slow Downloads
by Guest leerephan- 13 replies

I have Windows XP/SP2, Internet Explorer 6.0. My download time when accessing certain websites takes too long, and some pages or websites I cannot access at all. I thought I had a powerful computer, but evidentally that is not the case (I think). I know how to check for spyware, defrag, dump temp files, etc... my computer is fine. Is there anyone out there that can look at my computer stats that I will email and tell me what is wrong, or perhaps I need to upgrade to 'whatever' to stop this irritating experience? I would so appreciate some help.

Has anyone come across this.? I noticed it in msconfig, read it was a trojan and deleted the entry in the registry. I did a thorough search in safemode with Ad Aware and AVG Free but nothing came up. Strangely I can't find a reference on the Symantec site??? Thanks John
