Re: OpenOffice.org RUNNING UNDER WINDOWS VISTA at Wal-mart is Declared a Success (Fantastic Repsonse) Please keep your subject lines accurate Roy Schestowitz. So what ever happened to those Linux loaded systems that Walmart was trying to sell? If you use Windows XP, and have a lot of files, this might help remove some junk files on your system. Now first, I found a similiar document at AumHa, but I am not breaking copyright. I did not copy and paste. So, if you did read the AumHa forums, don't read this and post "There is one here". So first, let's go through the files. In the WINDOWS folder, there is another folder called Prefetch. You may have several files in this folder, or, if you changed this setting, just two. So, get in there, and delete ALL of it. Don't worry, I have done this many times and nothing has happened yet. I recommend doing this once a month. The 'Q' switch is not r…

Hi all, I'm struggling with a problem on a Toshiba notebook A75-S1253 purchased at CompUSA less than a year ago, which Windows XP now says is not a genuine copy when Windows Update is run. Let's get one thing out of the way - this is a notebook purchased at CompUSA with a pre-loaded Windows XP install, so no piracy is involved. Something has gone wrong, and I'm trying to fix it. Unfortunately the laptop is not with me at the moment and I'm doing long-distance (to/from India!) debugging/problem resolution so it's not easy. My best hope was this MS KnowledgeBase article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/916247 which tells me how to check what ca…

Copy large # of files from one directory
by Guest DeanB- 7 replies

I have 100,000 small image files in a directory. I press Select All and it takes minutes (if not hours) to respond, and to copy them just generally fails. Not sure why - I'm assuming its a memory issue in loading up file information (header info), but I don't really know. Makes it a PITA to move files around - I had to write a little program that moves files one at a time, rather than doing the windows select all. Any advice welcomed.

Problem with iertutil.dll after installing new RDP client
by Guest Bo Berglund- 2 replies

I installed the newest Remote Desktop Client from Microsoft into my XP-Pro SP2 PC in order to be able to use remote desktop to Vista machines and also to make it possible to use larger screen sizes. But now whenever I start the Remote Desktop it pops up an error box with the text: "This application has failed to start because iertutil.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem." After clicking the OK button the RDP connect dialog is showed normally. Why is this happening and what can I do to stop it? I have InternetExplorer 6 (not IE7) installed but I don't use it (I am a Firefox user). It seems like this dll is some part of …

Install on SATA only
by Guest Mark G.- 14 replies

In the past with my hardware upgrades I have had a combination of IDE and SATA hard drives. Seems everytime I decide to do a fresh install of XP, I would run into an issue with trying to set a SATA drive as the first drive or the drive I in install windows on. With my new hardware, all I will be running is SATA drives, no more IDE's with the exception of plugging one in to retrieve some data after the initial reinstall. So with the newer motherboards and where XP is concerned, is this an issue with this new technology? What I mean is, do you still have to go through the route of providing the SIL drivers when you get to that point in the install? Just cu…

Dear Sir, My PC is running on Window XP (Home), may I know is it possible to set my PC to turn On and Off automatically at certain time during the day. After turning on , it would connect to the internet automatically and go to certain URL to play certain song. This is a very interesting feature. If this is impossible for Window XP, Is it possible for Window Vista ? Is there any free download of the software I describe above over the internet ? Thanks Low -- A36B58K641
