Want to upgrade my mobo, ram and graphic's card, OEM XP Pro, issues ??
by Guest A_Newsreader- 20 replies

Hi there, I'm VERY new to XP having clung to Windows 2000 for long enough ! Installed XP Pro onto my machine (wiped off W2k), liked what I saw and activated the software via the internet. I still have the XP Pro disk, CD Key etc - this copy is legal (bought off Ebay). Now however I've noticed that a Mobo that I'd been eyeing up for the last year has become VERY cheap on Ebay and it's something really worth doing. It'd mean upgrading my Ram, with the ultimate aim of upgrading my Graphics Card. I intend using the 2 Xeon processors I have as well as keeping all the hard disks, sound cards etc. Please can someone tell me, as I have an OEM version of…

Is there any way to display the classic windows logon screen at startup, but still allow fast user switching. When there is more than 1 user logged on, it will use the welcome screen. Once they all log off, it will go back to the classic logon. Please let me know if this is possible.

I can't find the program anymore. Does anyone know what I am referring too. I won't use windows desktop manager because of its terrible search program

Svchost hogging the CPU up to 99%
by Guest Computer logon password- 3 replies

I have been having problems with svchost and do not seem to be able to fix it. One of the copies of Svchost grabs up to 99% of the CPU and everything else stops dead. The only way to be able to use the computer is canceling the task from Task manager at which point the speakers stop functioning. About three weeks ago I downloaded the latest version of Microsoft Media Player and the problem disappeared for about a week. Without any modifications (no downloads) to the Windows system the problem showed up again. I will be very thankful for the solution to this very annoying problem. Al

naming and renaming photo files
by Guest jrsjs- 0 replies

Hello, I have loads of photos on my computer in a separate D drive which are backed up to external hard drives. These all have names and many have meta data. Suddenly for no apparent reason at all some of my photos disappeared and the disapperance was unfortunately backed up. I have restored the files but I now have a problem in naming and renaming the restored files. Whereas I previously could name them as I liked, I now am not allowed to give names other than very short ones and existing names have been truncated. I cannot find a way around this and have no idea why it happened. I am also finding in Photoshop that some files will not rename and I am be…

MSP Files Are Killing My Disk Space
by Guest Andres Galdames- 4 replies
Hi Everyone, I have two hard drives in my machine. One of them is only 20GB, and not surprisingly I have been getting low disk space errors. My question is that when I took a look, it seems that MORE THAN HALF of this disk space is being taken up by the .msp files. Is that normal? To be a bit more specific there are about 11GB of files with .msp files that from my limited knowledge are some sort of installer files. Do I need to keep these? Which ones can be deleted. Thanks for your time!

Hi, There's a very annoying and stupid problem about "command prompt AKA cmd.exe" in XP. When i open command prompt through "start-cmd.exe" no problem in resizing default window. But i have some console applications must be ran with command prompt as natural. But when i run them the Window size is fixed to 80x55 and i'n not allowed to change Windows size even with dragging ! Why? What's the reason and annoying restriction of window rezising of command prompt in XP? I only have that problem if i launch problem with double-clicking on my app's exe.
