When I goto the Date and Time Properties>Internet Time tab and click on update now I get this error message "An error occurred while windows was synchronizing with time.windows.com The time sample was rejected because: The peer`s stratum is less than the host`s stratum". I switched off the firewall but still no joy, have tried numerous times incase the server was busy and also tried time.nist.gov server. Any ideas why this is?

Copying data from one profile to another
by Guest Daave- 3 replies

A friend of mine who has a laptop running XP Pro wanted to create a new profile to log on to a domain (but she wanted to retain her desktop, bookmarks, etc.). So I created a new profile, deleted everything in it, then copied everything from the older profile in it. A few days later, I realized I may have done this incorrectly (even though she hasn't been experiencing any problems. According to "How to copy data from a corrupted user profile to a new profile" at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811151 , three files (Ntuser.dat, Ntuser.dat.log, and Ntuser.ini) are *not* to be copied. Why is this and what is the potential harm in copying them like I did?

Suggestion to MS: New Add On for Window XP -Auto Navigation and On
by Guest Mr. Low- 3 replies

Dear Sir, Thank you for regularly updating the OS for security and performance reasons. However I notice that each time when the updates is installed, the PC would need to be reboot. During this process the user need to reconnect to their internet and get back to their URL all over again. Similar problem also arises for installation of updates from other software producers. Is it possible for MS Developers to add an Option to enable to enable the PC to reconnect itself to the internet and navigate to the latest access URL after rebooting ? This could save a lot of time and effort of doing it manually. For installation of new software, this option…

If I remember correctly when I did my re-installation, there is no partion, hence there may be a default small partiton which I never observe under Disk Management. The other day I scan another hdd (as secondary slave) and later took it out of my pc. Now when I go to Disk Management I can see my NTFS C: and an additional "IBM Service' FAT32 Healthy (unknown Partiton 758 mb. Below these data (Disk 0) , the diagram shows C: NTFS //(11.72 mb) Unallocated 15 GB // IBM Service 761 mb (unknown partition). How can the IBM appears in my pc?

Windows XP SP2, IE7, office 2007. I have a Word 2003 document on my HDD. If I search on the title of this document, under the "Documents" filter, it is NOT found. If I change the filter to "Everything", it IS found, as a Word Document. Is there a setting somewhere for this, or is it just something that Windows Desktop search does?

Redirect of one letter to another
by Guest 10_a_c- 3 replies

Hello: Before I find the funds to replace my laptop with a broken keyboard letter (e.g. "k"), I would like to know if there is a way to redirect a rarely used key like "+" for a more commonly used key. I had thought with DOS awhile back that you could redirect one letter key to another. I thought that a pipe would work but not close. Let me thank you in advance for any and all suggestions.

Curious Connectivity Problem
by Guest PT- 1 reply

WinXP Home, IE6 My wife's computer was set up with two user accounts, one for each of us. I rarely use my account. Today, I tried using it and discovered a curious situation while accessing web sites with IE6. If I use IE6 on her account, everything behaves normally. But when I access the same sites from my user account, I get frequent "failure to connect "error 12029" errors. The log from the connectivity tool seems to show that while HTTPS sites load normally, HTTP accounts don't connect. Obviously both her account and mine share the identical DSL wired connection. Suggestions welcome. _____ PT

"page cannot be found" error after some navigations!
by Guest qazmlp1209@rediffmail.com- 5 replies

After some navigation in specific sites, I get "page cannot be found" error. The same page is accessible, if I try reopening it in a new browser. I removed all the cookies, temporary files also. Still the same problem repeats after some time. Also, I could observe that this problem happens only for some of the sites and not for all. Does anybody have an idea to overcome this problem?

Office 2003 ???
by Guest XP via WindowsKB.com- 3 replies

I just installed XP PRO on my machine. I try to install office 2003. Then, it auto plays. It says it can't find a certain file. I try to open it again and it is completely gone from "My Computer". I don't know what the file is called because it will not let me open setup anymore. Neither will it let me open the CD drive. The only way it will let me take the CD out is if I turn the computer off and turn it back on again. What do I do??? -- XP Message posted via WindowsKB.com http://www.windowskb.com/Uwe/Forums.aspx/windowsxp/200709/1
