Downloads don't finish?
by Guest Kenny- 1 reply

Using XP Pro/SP2/IE6. Seems to happen more with larger downloads. Just today tried to download trial version of Acronis True Image 11 from Acronis site. Speed about 420Kbps, goes to 1% remaining and shows 136MB of 136MB downloaded but it just sits there and doesn't finish, showing as still downloading. Have then tried it on a laptop using XP MCE on the same modem/router and the same thing happens. It happened a while ago downloading Nero which is also fairly large, doesn't seem to happen with small downloads. Would installing Firefox or Opera make any difference here? Any help appreciated. -- Kenny Cargill

Using a master NTUSER file
by Guest Blackberry- 1 reply

Hi All I work in a number of schools and I have to set up (too) many PCs in the same standard form. Because 99% of these are Win2K3 clients we are talking numerous user profiles as well, so I currently log on as one user, set the Desktop, Screensaveer, etc stuff up and then copy the NTUSER file from this account to the default user so that every user profile that logs on has this style. This seems to work fine, but I would now like to take this a step further and keep of a copy of this NTUSER file so that on a new machine I simply drop this into the default user folder straight away. My question is, am I allowed to do this from one machine to another or wil…

Change default sound card on all windows user accounts
by Guest kerplunkwhoops@yahoo.co.uk- 0 replies

Hello I am trying to find a reliable method to change the default windows sound card for all users who log onto windows that dont have administrator rights. I have added an additional sound card to a computer (a voip phone) and windows switches all playback to the new sound card by default. I want to make the original onboard sound card the default again. This is simple on an adminstrator account - I go to 'control panel' then 'sound and audio device' then choose the correct sound card as the default. This works on the administrator account, but if anyone elso logs in, the default sound card is the newly added sound card ie the change on the admin accoun…

simplest app to cut out bits of a dvd and screenshots
by Guest Blackberry- 0 replies

Hi All I work for a number of schools and they are always trying to enhance their pupils' learning with visual/interactive stuff instead of boring old school methods. They were doing topics on World War II and the teachers wanted to cut out video clips of famous films, eg Saving Private Ryan, Pearl Harbour, etc, so that the compiled content would be OK for young eyes. Problem is the current crop of 'stick a DVD, select a chunk, extract it and save it as a video file' software appears to be rubbish! The only decent one that I managed to find was a prog called MovAvi that was simple to use and was OK for screenshots, but the left and right marker function…

....pci card installed by XP beautifully in seconds ! NEXT problem:- I think I may have discovered a problem in my 3 1/2" bay meemory card read, (which has a 1394 plug hole on the front of it, which was why I wanted a 1394 pin header on a pci card) ! Re: http://pinouts.ru/Slots/ieee1394_pinout.shtml the 1394 plug diagram on this page. ....while I was trying to work out for myself, (with tester set to continuity), which internal "fly lead" from the back of the card reader / went to which pin on the 1394 pin header on this blooming pci card, I discovered that pins 5 and 6, (TPA+ and -), appear to be connected together, inside my 3 1/2" bay card read…

My wife's computer has XP Pro on it and we got her the Media Edition for the bonus features. Unfortunately, when I try to install it, I cannot get the option to re-format to come up so I can remove XP Pro to make room for the Media Edition. If someone could let me know what I'm doing wrong, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you in advance.

I just upgraded the hardware in my computer to a Core 2 Duo, new motehrboard and new video card. I'm trying to re-install Windows XP but it gets hung up on the device installation part and goes to a blue screen. The blue screen says the installation was stopped to protect my computer and blah blah blah. I don't know what is wrong. Everything looks good from a hardware standpoint. Can someone please help? I have a feeling that I'll need to upgrade to Vista.
