Vista = big fat bust in the home market.

Shall we say that the truth is finally shining? Shall we say "I was telling you so"? Shall we say that I was explaining to the fanboys that everyones Vista out and XP in? Keep reading! http://crn.com/digital-home/201805832?cid=microsoftFeed By Steven Burke, CMP Channel 12:00 AM EDT Mon. Sep. 17, 2007 From the September 17, 2007 issue of CRN Digital home integrators say Microsoft's Windows Vista operating system has been a big fat bust in the home market. That bleak Vista view, however, has translated into healthy profits for home integrators ripping Vista off systems and replacing the much-ballyhooed operating system with Windows XP. Microsoft, for…

USB mouse stops working when unplugging USB printer
by Guest Lars-Erik Østerud- 7 replies

When I unplug my USB printer (to connect it to another PC) my USB mouse stops working (until I reboot the PC that is). Same happends the other way, if I reconnect my USB printer the USB mouse also stops responding (until a reboot). Why is this happening? Any ideas on how to avoid this? Does the connection port have any influence (my system has 6 USB2 ports)? -- Lars-Erik - http://www.osterud.name - ICQ 7297605

Can RASDIAL be used to connect to DUN and then AOL?
by Guest Danny- 0 replies

My aunt uses a dial-up connection(Windows XP) with Ntelos to get online and then connects to AOL 9.0VR for free by piggybacking the Ntelos DUN. I cannot get the AOL software to automatically start the Ntelos DUN like IE does, but AOL will detect and use the Ntelos DUN if it is already up and running. I'm not at my aunt's computer(she's a 4 hour drive away) and wonder if RASDIAL could be used in a batch file to connect to the Ntelos DUN, then start up AOL, which has been configured to sign on automatically with her screenname and password, and finally disconnect the Ntelos DUN with the /Disconnect command when AOL has been shut down. Any batch script ideas to a…

Windows Security Alerts and the Terminal Services service
by Guest Jerry- 0 replies

Hi all, Does anybody have any experience with Windows Security Alerts (the red shield on the system tray) not working if the Terminal Services service isn't running? I like to have the alerts on just in case something goes wrong such as my antivirus program doesn't start properly. I was contemplating disabling the Terminal Services service because I don't believe I need it. However, when it's disabled and the computer is restarted (to stop the service), the Windows Security Alerts don't come up. I test the alerts by turning off Automatic Updates and making sure the Windows Security Alerts are configured to warn me if Automatic Updates is not on. …

by Guest jchchye- 1 reply

Greetings people, I'm having a weird problem here. Each time I click on Tools > Folder Options to show hidden files/system files, I still don't see them after clicking OK. When I repeat the steps, I notice that the selection were reverted back to "Do Not Show Hidden Files" and box for "Hide protected system files" were checked. Hope someone will provide an explanation and possible solution for this. Thanks people.

problems with text size
by Guest Roger Van Loon- 7 replies

I am using Win XP Professional. After changing to a new monitor screen, I had to reset the resolution (now1280 x 1024 pixels). Afterwards, the text size, for me, was too small to read, so I made adaptations in Win XP (right-clicking on the desktop - properties - appearance - advanced - message box (etc) - font size) (DPI set to 120). Still, I can't get it right. My main problem is with the size of the text in my mail program (Outlook Express 6) (where I also made adaptations, but I think the solution must lie in the settings of Win XP.) The text size in the mail windows is OK, but the text in some boxes remains small, whatever I do. For example - whe…
