A directory containing 100,000 images: I right-click | Copy and it takes minutes to respond. To actually copy them is exceedingly painful. But I can move single large files of the euqivalent total size around easily. What are some things that I might look into in improving this performance? Thanks! Dean

Child Pornography and Child Murder
by Guest cefvbg- 7 replies

Hello: I am enclosing the following story because I'm so pissed off about it I don't know what else to do. Child pornography is violence directed at children, not sex. Pornography is a depiction of sexual contact between consenting adults. Child pornography is really child rape. There have been 12 children in the US killed by pedophiles in the last year alone. Suspect named in girl's death September 13, 2007 NAVARRO MILLS, Texas — Authorities have named the boyfriend of a woman whose 6-year-old daughter was found hanging in her family's garage as the primary suspect in the girl's death, The Dallas Morning News reported today. Kevin Anders, 32…

by Guest Darrel Decal- 1 reply

I been reading alot of stuff on the google search engines about the CPU's of Windows user getting hogged to the 95 - 100 percent. I been noticing my CPU goes to that 100 percent alot whether I use Explorer or Firefox surfing websites with flash objects, and even worse if its java game applet sites such as Pogo.com or Yahoo Games. I tried many things mentioned by people such as goign back to the regular Windows Update instead of Microsoft update. Can't seem to nip it in the bud why that CPU goes wild.. I have done complete scans with windows defender, Norton Antivirus 2007, adware, ect only to not find any trojans or adware. And i do just brief …

Task Manager questions, stuck chart - Please help
by Guest JimC- 7 replies

A. I'm trying to use Task Manager in XP to identify programs that may be using excessive amounts of CPU capacity. Does Task Manager (or another program) have the ability to show where excessive CPU "processing power" is being used, so that I could check out and deactivate or remove programs that are a drag on my PC's operating efficiency, or are not needed? If so, how do you perform that function? B. Also, recently I'm having a weird response when I attempt to open Task Manager (by clicking the mouse button on the lower tool bar). Instead of opening the Task Manager menu, a large green and black display chart entitled "CPU Usage" pops up. The left sid…

Monitor screen stays dark - one more time
by Guest ray124c41- 2 replies

Perhaps previously I was not clear or was too verbose, so I'm re-posting this problem: When my system comes out of standby, the monitor screen doesn't come on. Only the little green light at the bottom of the monitor comes on. If I wait till the little green light goes off and hit the button under the little green light, THEN the monitor screen comes on. The problem is, of course, that when the system resumes or (re-)boots, the monitor should come on automatically. So, how to fix? Is this a hardware problem? Am I about to have a hardware failure? If so, what hardware? A software problem? What? I hope this is clear. -- ray124c41

Hi All Got a brand new laptop running WinXP Pro SP2. Set it up to access a wireless network (no encryption - MAC control) in the office and one at home (128bit WEP - no MAC control). All done through WinXP's wireless part of the wireless network connection. Using built-in WLAN card on a Fujitsu Siemens laptop. Even though the Advanced properties shows 2 wireless entries (home then office in the list), the laptop isn't auto-picking up the office after first looking at the home connection. I have to go into the Network properties / Adanced Settings / Wireless Networks / etc and move the office entry up to the top for it to kick in. The end user …

by Guest ttphan- 8 replies

I have had Control Panel issue, everytime I tried to click on it and the restriction pop up window is: "This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system adminstrator". Therefore I could Not access to Control Panel. Even though I've logged on as Administrator and got into Regedit to Policy, to Gpedit to set Not Configure (Disabled) but it didn't work, I also tried it in Safe Mode. I also tried system restore but somehow this feature's not working either, it couldn't restore back to any previous restore point. I'm the only one who's using this laptop. This issue also prevent me from viewing Adjust Date/…

Repair/Install issue
by Guest Panic- 3 replies

Something to think about if for future computer problems. I recently did a repair/install of WinXP SP2 and had to then install about 80 further upgrades again. Then upgrade Internet Explorer from version 6.0 to 7.0. Everything seemed to work OK but my printer was screwing up. It's a USB printer. I checked the connections and it was good. Then I had a revelation. A lot of my external devices like the printer, scanner, USB hard drives I have powered by a separate power strip. I leave it off most of the time and only power it up when I need to use one of the external devices. Ding! Ding! I just thought..... hey, the repair/ install might have lost…
