Preamble: My computer uses Windows XP Home and has several drives appearing in My Computer. The main hard drive includes two partitions, which were created by Compaq (the computer manufacturer). The C: drive is the main drive containing the operating system as well as all programs and data files. The D: drive is apparently a backup of the operating system, drivers and other stuff which is to be used by Compaq to fix problems. I also have two external drives: an Iomega hard drive L:, and a small USB plug-in jump drive (K:). Here's what properties shows about the drive file systems: C: NTFS D: FAT32 K: NTFS L: NTFS Now the questi…

Adding functionality to keys beyond F12
by Guest Richard- 2 replies
Hi, I've got a 101-key keyboard, I think. Anyway, there are three keys to the right of F12 which used to be labeled PrtScrn ... I can't remember the rest. On my machine, these keys are labeled with unrecognizable graphics. Today I wanted to use the PrintScreen function, so I pressed the left-most of this triplet. What I got was Hibernate. How can I see the coding associated with these keys? Where can I find coding to invoke PrintScreen? Thanks in advance, Richard

Could someone tell me how to stop Windows XP Home SP2 drom connecting to the internet automatically as soon as Windows starts please? After a recent Miccrosoft Update I think, my connection settings have somehow changed and the Dialup Dialogue Box comes up with the Connect Automatically Box checked and the cancel button greyed out so I can't stop it from Connecting on Startup. Using VMWare on XP Home to run Win98SE
by Guest Martin C- 6 replies

Having read previous posts about using a dual boot system, I have decided to try another option as I currently have XP Home SP2 installed. I wanted to use my old Win98SE as a dual boot, but it seems this is a trickier route to take as the newer OS is on the machine first and I dont want to start all over again. Instead, I have been looking into using VMWare Free Player to run Win98SE so that some of my older games that I enjoy can be run - as XP does not like a lot of them. However, I am reading a lot of conflicting stuff on the web so hoped that some of you that may have used it can give me the real situation on the following three questions. 'VM…

OT? Newsgroup posts take long time to leave Outbox
by Guest Gordon- 8 replies
Using XP SP2, IE7. I subscribe to groups on several news servers that are extraneous to the news server run by my ISP, including msnews.microsoft.com. Every post I make to groups on these servers leaves my Outbox almost instantaneously, EXCEPT those I post to msnews.microsoft.com. These can take anything up to 30 seconds to leave the Outbox. Can anyone think why this should be, and is there a fix?
