office ultimate 2007 and media 2004 xp HELP!!
by Guest dh8- 2 replies

rec'd a doc in word 2003 format as a web based email attachment. Opened it with my word 2007, no problem. Spent over 5 hours editing the doc with no problems. Husband sat down and hit "close" and answered "yes" when prompted if he wanted to save the changes. Looked like there was no problem. Can't locate the doc with changes ANYWHERE. Not in recent docs, word history, searches thru hidden files, subfolder, temp internet files, etc. Tested what hubby did and it definitely looks like the doc gets saved but apparently to nowhere. If I use the word 2007 to create a doc; it saves perfectly by closing with the "close" route or "save as". I open th…

netapi32.dll rebased in security update 921883
by Guest David J- 0 replies

Is there a fix for the netapi32.dll that was rebased in security update 921883? This causes requests for lots of contiguous memory to fail. One can get around it by manually rebasing the DLL but it would be nice to have an official patch. According to KB 924054, a hotfix is available which, I assume, restores netapi32.dll to the original base address. However, this hotfix is only available for Windows Server 2003 and XP Professional x64. Is there a hotfix available for the 32-bit version of XP Professional? Thanks.

Windows Explorer very slow to load
by Guest billTheTailor@gmail.com- 1 reply

When I open Windows Explorer with folders on the left, it initially loads very well. I get My Computer, My Documents, etc etc etc. When I click the plus sign to expand D: it goes well, then +Inetpub, then +wwwroot and then it stops and waits. And waits. And waits. If I double-click wwwroot in the listview pane, it loads immediately - though the treeview will still be five or ten minutes before it refreshes. I can navigate as deep into the structure as I want as long as I use the listview pane - the treeview just takes too long to refresh. Any ideas what's causing this? My PC at home doesn't do it. How do I resolve this error...?
by Guest michael- 2 replies

I have a WXP pro pc on a network, identical to all other pcs on the network. It has been running fine, but I needed to rename the pc and received an error after attempting that: "Multiple connections to a server or shared resource by the same user, using more than one user name, are not allowed. Disconnect all previous connections to the server or shared resource." This is something I have done literally a thousand times in my domain with many different pcs and never had a problem. This is the ONLY pc this user has, so I don't understand the "multiple connections" part of the error. Please help!

I am using Windows Xp with the SP2 pack. When closing down recently the above error message appears. I have not been quick enough to get the rest of the message before it disappears. When I reboot the computer I have a blank screen for a minute or two, then a black and white screen appears with some message that I have to press either F1 or F2. I press F1 then the computer boots up. The only problem I seem to have is that I have to reset the time, date and year again. Can any body assist me with this please????

Firefox won't load pages
by Guest pbl- 9 replies

Is there a newsgroup for Firefox? My problem is that the browser won't load any pages with the "Server not Found" message. Internet explorer works fine so it's not my network at fault. I disabled my firewall and the problem persists. I uninstalled and reinstalled and the problem persists. It just seemed to start of a sudden and I have no clue what's going on.

ZIO Dazzle Memory Stick Adapter Runs Amuck
by Guest W. Watson- 1 reply

A friend has a Dell Dimension 4600 with a Dazzle memory stick. He recently installed a Simple Tech external HD (D:). Whenever he fires up the external drive, a dailog appears about making a choice for a memory stick. It's annoying. It can appear whether or not he's to the adapter in his machine or not. He would like to eliminate the dialog when he's not using the adpater and only the external drive. As far as I can tell, the dialog is not installed on either his C or D drive. He did a quick format on D, but the dialog still appears. Comments? -- Wayne Watson (Nevada City, CA) Web Page: <speckledwit…

Desktop search and hidden files/folders
by Guest Bob Findlay- 0 replies

I have the following problem with Windows desktop search. We have a network share, with a hidden folder for snapshots. If you descend to this hidden folder, it looks like there are about 20 copies of all the files on the network share. Windows desktop search is indexing this hidden folder and is therefore bloating the search results by a factor of 20. Because the folder is hidden, I cannot tell Windows desktop search to exclude it. I cannot unhide this share as it is a function of the Filer. I don't have the privilege to change the properties of this folder. I have tried simulating the default exclusion that can be set by group policy by creatin…

NO SOUND WMP 11 Win XP sp2
by Guest USGrant- 0 replies

About a week ago, I noticed that I had no sound. Videos would play but no sound. External speakers checked out ok. No sound at either outlet on the 'puter. I had moved some hard drives around and thought that might be the problem. Volume control from the keyboard seemed fine, nothing was muted. I ran virus scans and spyware scans. All drives were "working properly" and engaged. Music from files and DVD played without sound. I read dozens of pages of troubleshooting. Opened Device Manager a hundred times; checked every driver, used upteen free driver scan programs (I have 1600 bad or outdated drivers); downloaded and installed ac3Filter; rolled back w…

Access share on win2003 from xp pro sp2
by Guest h0lger@hotmail.com- 6 replies

Hi I have a really strange problem with accessing a network share on a win2003 server. The server has 3 network shares i.e. \\server\1 \\server\2 and \\server \3 All three shares has the same permissions. I can access 1 and 2 but not 3. I was able to connect to all 3 of them for just a week ago but now I cant connect to share 3. I am running xp pro sp2. If I log in onto another xp pro sp2 with the same account, I can access all 3 shares so it isn't a permissions problem. It seems like the share is blocked on my laptop. Is this possible? Anyone got a clue? Regards Mikael

DirectX 9.0 Initialisation Error
by Guest HeySteve86- 3 replies

was running a registry cleaner called CC cleaner because I was having problems with a game I was running. It found quite a few ActiveX/COM errors, so I fixed them using the program. I tried running my game and it failed to open. I then ran another game and got this error: DirectX Initialisation Fail 'Line 1398, CreateDevice: D3DERR_INVALIDCALL' I downloaded and installed DirectX 9.0c using the DirectX 9.0c Redist, and using the DirectX End User from Microsoft. Both claimed to have re-installed DirectX9, but my games still fail to recognize it. I do not know if this is a failure to see directx, or an activex error. I even backed up the registry to before I …
