Router--Router--Internet setup not working....
by Guest BigAl.NZ@gmail.com- 7 replies

Hi Folks, Hoping that someone here could please help. I am trying to help a friend setup a home network. They connect to the internet via a Belkin ADSL Modem which has a single ethernet port at the back. I suppose you could call it a Single port router. They got given a D-Link 4 port router with wifi (DI-524 from memory), and this now sits between the PC (WinXP SP2) and the the Belkin ADSL modem. They also have a laptop which connects via the wifi (Vista). The internet appears to work intermittently, it will go for varying lengths of time before you start to receive page cannot be displayed. I have done the most basic of diagnosing when the connection …

Set the date range in Eventvwr
by Guest cashdeskmac- 2 replies
Hi, is there a way to tell Eventvwr how long it should hold on to records? I wanted to look back over a year but it only goes back a few months. I know I can't do anything about it now but for future reference I would like eventvwr to hold information for at least 2 years before letting it go. Is it set by date, number of records or total size of data, and is there any way to configure it? Any help would be much appreciated.

Fast toggling between 'open each folder in same/own window'?
by Guest Bob W- 5 replies

it takes four mouse clicks and a series of jumpy eye movements to open the Tools/Folder Options dialog and toggle between opening all folders in the same window versus opening them in their own windows. Is there a more efficient way to toggle between these settings?

Save/attach Dialog box performance
by Guest GaryDean- 0 replies

my laptop running xppro with 2gig of memory and a way fast cpu runs very well and response in most all programs is instanteous. However when I am trying to save as or doing an insert file dialog it is oh sooo slow. For instance, save as always defaults to My Documents which comes up immediately. But when I hit the dropdown, to show the drives, it sometimes takes more than 30 seconds. Then when I double click on a directory, it might take another 30 seconds. What can I do to fix this? -- Regards, Gary Blakely Dean Blakely & Associates http://www.deanblakely.com

How to set NIC to be default
by Guest Miha- 4 replies
Hi Have a problem with setting one of two Ethernet adapters to default. Win2003 Web Server, 2 NICs are connected to a switch which has two firewalls connected to it. 1 NIC 190.191.0.18/16 GW 190.191.2.1 2 NIC 190.191.0.17/16 GW 190.191.0.1 First NIC routes through a firewall that has access to the internet, second NIC routers through a firewall that has access to LAN and Internet. But after restarting server, or disabling/enabling second NIC, default traffic is always routed through second NIC through GW 190.191.0.1, but I want that internet traffic is always routed through the first NIC that has GW 190.191.2.1? So in other words…

LPT3 should be LPT1
by Guest Jeff- 8 replies
Here's the scoop: I have a new computer with an ASUS P5N32-SLI motherboard. This motherboard has no physical parallel ports at all. It seems to be a new trend. XP Pro was installed. I now need an LPT1 to interface to some speciallized IC programming equipment, so I added a MosChip Technoloy SY-PIO9835-2S1P PCI card which has 2 COM ports and 1 LPT port. When installation was complete, the parallel port was added as LPT3. The specialized hardware cannot communicate on LPT3, so I need this physical parallel port to be reinstalled as LPT1. In the Device Manager under Ports (COM & LPT), only COM1, LPT3, COM3, and COM4 exist. The latter 3 are from…

Calibrating RBG printer output
by Guest bdz321@gmail.com- 1 reply

Apologies to the assembled multitudes for the cross-postings and the probability that I am posting to the wrong groups. Perhaps a gentle reader can give me a shove in the right direction with this issue: I am having problems getting printer output of text and graphics driven by RBG code accurately reflecting the values used in some applicaitons. The colors reflected when printing photos or jpg images attached to documents is unaffacted, and these images are look fine. However, when using MSOffice2000 applications or WPOffice 12, I cannot get RBG- driven text (and images such as boxes, cell tints, lines, arrows, etc.) to print in the right colors. Interest…

Windows won't start, computer keeps restarting before windows logi
by Guest bigglesthebrave- 6 replies
My computer starts with a message informing me that 'windows did not start successfully, a recent hardware or software change may have caused this' It then goes on to explain that I need to start in safe mode, start using last known configuration (that works) or start normally and gives me the options to do so. Starting in safe mode gets me to the welcome/login screen for about 5 seconds before it restarts itself, starting in any other mode doesn't even get that far before restarting. The only recent change to software I can think of is that it was downloading updates the last time it was switched on, could it be an incomplete installation of the …

Setup Home or Small Office Network Not Working
by Guest spamless- 1 reply

Hi, my problem seems to have started through a format and reinstall of my XP Pro with SP2 I did enter my name during the setup process but upon windows starting up seems there is just one account for named Administrator, this has only led to one problem as I can see, the Home/Office Network setup wizard does not work, it does not open at all, it is not greyed out but pressing on it does not start the setup wizard, other than re-installing windows is there a way to fix this problem, it does not give me any errors so I am limited in what to say. Thanks, Arthur

Was working on improving performance on old Dell laptop. One reboot to main user account and all shortcuts and program access links on desktop disappeared. All software still works. Is there an easy way to recover them? Set restore point before began work, but going back means having to repeat a lot of steps. Was looking for easier way. Thanks.
