Integrating SP2 into XP installation folder
by Guest chateau- 3 replies

My submission refers to MS article 900871 that instructs how to download and integrate XP SP2 NETWORK installation package to earlier version of XP-es. I have arrived to this site, hoping to get my missing i386 folder integrated with XP SP2 on my computer running XP pro SP2. However my machine is not connected to NETWORK, running individually. Still, can use this site for the intended purpose of mine? Thanks for any help

Time sync failure... why?
by Guest Jonathan Sachs- 10 replies
I am running Windows XP SP2. I need to figure out why I am getting an error whenever I try to synchronize my clock with an Internet time server, either automatically or by clicking "Update Now." I initially assumed that Norton Internet Security was interfering with the process, but I tried disabling its firewall, its intrusion detection, and its spyware detection, without results. Norton's logs do not indicate that it has taken any action when the time sync fails. When I try to synchronize with time.nist.gov, I get the message "An error occurred while Windows for synchronizing with time.nist.gov." When I try to synchronize with time.windows.com, I I get a…

My Windows Backup Utility is consuming more than 4 gig of space. What exactly is it? Does it actually store some (or all) of my data files? If yes, how do I access them? I lost one yesterday (an outlook folder) and I would like to restore it? -- jj

Cannot View Contents of My Pictures or My Music
by Guest JFelstead@googlemail.com- 0 replies

A relation rang me almost in tears on the weekend to say they had lost all of their digital photos in My Pictures folder and the same with their music in My Music folder. On closer inspection however the files are still there but cannot be seen. All user data is on a separate Hard Drive D:\ not the system drive C:\ (XP Proff SP2). If you use the run command and type D:\My Pictures\Xmas 2004 this sub folder opens and displays the contents, but if you browse to My Pictures through Windows Explorer none of these sub folders or any files within the root of the folder can be seen. Is this an issue with the Desktop.ini or Windows Shell? Can the desktop ini be replaced…

Problem with offline files
by Guest Lasse- 0 replies
Hi We replaced a server last year and some of the client computers had configured offline files on some folders on the server. The server was removed without removing the offline files/folders. Now the problem is that when syncing the folders it shows an error telling me that the folder on the old server can't be synched. That is understandable but how do I remove the reference to the old server? I have tried disabling offline files and the enabling them again but it doesn't solve the problem!

Theme services cannot start
by Guest Cal- 1 reply

Hi All, First of all, I am using Windows XP Professional. I have this problem with my Theme services. I have the problem where my windows and buttons will only show the classic theme style instead of Windows XP. I have tried restoring using kelly's theme restore and all that but it is still the same. Have went to try and restart the theme service at services.msc but when I stop it, it just stays there trying to stop it and all the buttons in the theme services will be greyed out. (The themes will start when the computer loads though) Does anyone have any idea how I can rectify this? Many thanks

Hello group I was examining the control panel of my new PC( albeit refurbished) and found out that there is nothing in the administrative tools section. What I did is I clicked the control panel and switched to classic view and when I clicked the administrative tools I can't find anything in it. Is this a normal or a worrying issue? Thanks! Roy

compressed (zipped) folders option under Send To menu
by Guest Jennifer- 3 replies
Windows XP Pro, SP2 + critical security updates When I right-click on a file and choose Send To, Compressed (zipped) Folder, I receive a prompt asking "do you want to designate compressed (zipped) folders as the application for handling zip files?". If I am a local administrator, I can choose Yes and everything functions fine. If I am not a local administrator, when I choose Yes, the file is compressed as expected, but the option to do this disappears from my Send To menu, and the shortcut disappears from my SendTo folder under my profile. I can copy the shortcut back into my SendTo folder, but once I do another compress it disappears again. Any i…

VPN file Connection deployment
by Guest Smokey Grindel- 1 reply

We set up a VPN through our Windows Server 2003 Network and now need to deploy the connection object to a few hundred laptops... Is there any easy way to create a VPN connection object without going through the connection wizard on every single system to create it? I was thinking about deploying it through a group policy in AD to our Laptops Organization unit.. but first I need something to deploy, a file, config script something. Thanks!

prob. using DDE to open file in running app.
by Guest Wilfried Hennings- 2 replies

Hello all, I'm having problems using DDE to open another .txt file in an already running editor. System is Windows XP Pro SP2 with all available updates. On one PC, this works as expected: in Windows explorer, the context menu for the filetype .txt (right-click) has the entry "PFE" and clicking on this loads the selected file into PFE. If PFE is already running, the selected file is loaded in a new document window of the same editor instance. However on another PC, using the same setup for filetype .txt, if the PFE editor is already running, selecting "PFE" from the context menu makes the PFE editor window come to front but the selected file isn't open…
