PC re-boots when blank DVD inserted!!
by Guest Nigel Andrews- 1 reply

I am recently finding my PC re-boots when I insert even any blank DVD in the DVDwriter!! I find then that the PC will keep re-booting until I eject the DVD. Then it seems only if I push the DVD draw (with DVD) back in at a certain point in the boot sequence will it continue to boot up to normal. Before or after that and it will reboot again.. and again! It doesn't happen every time I put a disc in, even if the conditions (apps running etc.) are the same. I don't seem to have autoplay set on this drive, so I don't know why it is even bothering when I load a DVD. Please can anybody help? Thanks Nigel

Every once in a while I get an IE Overlay on the contents of the CD. The folders and files are there but there's also an Internet Explorer "overlay" in the lower right hand corner. All my associations are fine. What is causing this and how do I fix it, does anyone know? -- entia non sunt multiplicanda praeter necessitatem

Broken computer - I didn't do it!
by Guest John- 1 reply

Yes, my computer is being an annoyance - AGAIN! If it weren't for that VistaXP theme that I downloaded, I wouldn't have to put up with this. Okay, I won't rant. Here is my problem. I click on something, access denied. Download something, access denied. In fact, every single thing I do, ACCESS DENIED! It is annoying! I booted in to safe mode just before I posted this just so I can set file permissions. I set permissions for the *entire* hard drive, yet I still don't have access. I can't use system restore because I didn't create a restore point. Maybe it was because I made changes to the Folder file type. Whatever it is, please tell me how to fix thi…

Making & Using a DOS6.2 boot CD-ROM
by Guest PSRumbagh- 5 replies

My Presario laptop runs on Win XP. Occasionally I would like to boot up to DOS6.2 from my CD-ROM which is the first BIOS selected boot device, then hard drive C: (note, my Compaq Presario V2000 laptop does not have a floppy drive or parallel port). I have a set of 3 floppy disc for DOS6.2 that I can copy onto CD-ROM on my other computer. How do I make a DOS boot CD-ROM, i.e. what files have to be on it? Will using it cause any harm to my laptop or the installed Win XP operating system? Also, how do I install the DOS driver for my PCMCIA to parallel port (IEEE 1284) card?

Can't upgrade to SP2
by Guest John Aldrich- 10 replies

I have an XP Pro machine that has no service pack whatsoever installed. Whenever I attempt to install SP1 or SP2, I get an error "an internal error has occurred" and the install fails. I have removed some spyware/adware, and I wonder if maybe that damaged the system somehow. I have a generic Windows XP Pro SP2 install CD, and I wonder if I can use the existing registration code to perform an "upgrade" install to resolve the issue and get the machine closer to ready to use by another user?

Deleted Skin Acidentally
by Guest ShyAnne Gull- 2 replies

I accidentally deleted the aquarium skin from Media Player and would like to know how to get it back. I thought that by clicking the RED X that it would just remove the skin from the current view and not remove it completely from the program. But it is now gone. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, -- Shyanne

Hi, I need help. I could not access to my D drive (encrypted data) after reinstalling XP Pro (in C drive). I did not touched D drive at all. I went thru some of the posts here and tried the various method suggested i.e. taking ownership, permission - but to no avail. Kept getting "access denied". Now I'm sitting here helplessly, staring at all my files trying to figure out how not to lose them. Can someone help me pls? Thanks, Kiko.

Backup Disk To Disk - Problem with Drive Image OT
by Guest MD Marcus- 5 replies

My drive image 2002 backup system has gone South. In Caldera DOS, one of the two drives shows Zero for size, and when I attempt to backup a partition to that drive, the drive shows BAD, and no backup is possible. The drives are good, I can boot to either one of them, and I've used this method for about 5 years now. All of a sudden the program has a problem. No matter which drive I try to copy from, or to, one of the drives always shows Zero and Bad. I downloaded and tried Acronis, but it doesn't seem to offer the DOS option for copying entire partitions. Likewise, I tried Terabyte's drive image, but it doesn't create a true image that I can boot to. …
