Everytime I start my computer, I get a message that says: Passwords have been cleared! Set switch Clear Password to open position before rebooting! The only way past this is to push F1 each and everytime I start the computer. Any suggestions?

Hi I bought a new computer with Win Vista Premium OS and added it to my home network .This replaces an old computer-that was running Win XP Pro-which had been networked to my PC that uses Windows XP home edition. These computers are directly connected via wired LAN and I have a Belkin router/modem with a wireless conection to a third networked computer. I have a problem accessing the new computer via the network. When I click on the new workgroup computer icon on my XP machine it gives an error message saying this is inaccessible possibly due to not having permission to access it. I am an administrator for all three machines (the other 2 computers are f…

Deleted domain user; stranded offline files
by Guest dvomsaal@ddrtech.com- 3 replies

Here's the strange situation I find the machine in: 1. The machine (laptop) was part of domain DOM. 2. User jdoe was a domain user. 3. A rule in DOM was that My Documents was mapped to a server share, which was then marked Available Offline. 4. User DOM\jdoe last synched 5/1/07. 5. Around 6/30/07, the machine was removed from the domain, and local user jdoe was set up. DOM\jdoe was deleted. 6. There are now about 20 files that are on the laptop, but not synchronized. I can see them on the laptop ("\\server\Clients\jdoe \jdoe's Documents\*.*") with their little "synchronized" icon, but I'm not allowed to open them as jdoe, or administrator. 7. The files aren…

Settings transfer
by Guest J- 5 replies

Hello, I'm going from workgroup to domain. All users on same PC as before. Should I use the File and Settings transfer wizard to backup then restore their settings for the new user, or is there a better way. Someone mentioned to me years ago that a simple registry change may migrate all files, settings, etc over to the new user. Thanks in advance.

WinXP upgrade problem
by Guest Rick J.- 3 replies

I’m trying to upgrade a Gateway computer with Win98SE to WinXP Home. The upgrade will only run a short time and I get a blue screen error that the program can not read the CD. I have tried the upgrade several times with the same result. The error message states that the CD may be dirty but it’s new and clean. I know that the CD-ROM functions correctly in Win98. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Rick J.

computer freezes
by Guest JanAdam- 6 replies

On a new pc running Win XP pro, with all current updates, the computer freezes on trying to use the new keyboard in an application. Tested on IE and Notepad with the same outcome. On start up everything seems to be normal, mouse is responding, etc. However, when using keyboard, everything freezes, and the computer is not reacting to both mouse and keyboard. Rebooting is the only way to have it working. The strange thing is that it works fine with an old keyboard. I have replaced the keyboard with another one of the same type (form the vendor) and the same thing happens. New keyboard: MS Digital Media Keyboard 1.0A, MS part # X809745-100 Old keyboard (wo…

Guess I push it too hard (too full) and now it will not fully boot up. I can go to Safe mode and when "fully' loaeded, there are only 4 words "safe mode display at the 4 corners and nothing else, a black screen on this IBM XP Home labtop.. I can go to task manager and most of the services "status' blank. Some of them would not allow me to 'start' it giving error 1084( cannot start in safe mode ). Any clue as to where I can get access to c: drive and transfer out some ddata. Or is the problem a bit bigger than I think. Thanks

NT AUTHORITY
by Guest William Oertell- 0 replies

In my Documents and Settings I have two copies of NT AUTHORITY. I have NT AUTHORITY and NT AUTHORITY.000. Actually, there are three copies of folders LocalService and NetworkService. They are: LocalService LocalService.NT AUTHORITY LocalService.NT AUTHORITY.000 NetworkService. NetworkService.NT AUTHORITY NetworkService.NT AUTHORITY.000 From what I understand I have to have NT AUTHORITY, but can the registry be edited to delete NT AUTHORITY.000? It seems like a lot of wasted hard disk real estate. I assume I'd have to transfer the most recent values from NT AUTHORITY.000 to NT AUTHORITY and edit the registry accordingly, finally deleting NT AUTHOR…

Could updates be my problem?
by Guest Breeze9- 0 replies

I am having trouble with a new install of XP. Everything works just peachy until I install the updates. When I try to go to all programs under my start menu I get an error that says explorer needs to close. I send the report and the same thing happens each time I try to do this. I restored my machine to the original date of the install, before updates, and everything was fine. This problem is also effecting my ability to see my digital camera. It will not load the drivers even if I go to the Sony web site and download them there. Anyone have any advise on what this could be and/or how to solve it? Thank You Sean
