My PC has both Norton System Works 2005 and Norton Internet Security (Can't tell which version or revision the NIS is). Do these two programs conflict with each other, and should I remove one of them? Also, there is a Symantic section on my HD with about 30 files, many relating to updates. Thanks, Jim

I have purchased and installed Bit Defender a couple months ago and two days ago it started popping up a Virus Alert informing me it has detected a trojan/virus. It will show the file path then the state what the virus is: i.e: PATH: c:\windows\system32\nnnnkhe.dll Infected with: Trojan.Vundo.DNE Since this initial alert popped up, I have ran HJT and tried removing the file (Trojan) through that program, as well as downloaded and installed several so called Virus/Trojan removal tools from Microsoft, etc.... I have run scans through Stinger, VundoFix, SmitfraudFix, jv16 power tools, etc and so on and none of these software scanners will remove the i…

Windows Vista Theme messed up XP?
by Guest John- 3 replies

Hi, I am running Windows XP Service Pack 2. I recently downloaded a theme file for XP (with the THEME file extension) and ran it. Okay, so that worked. So, I go to the Start Menu to open a program. The normal shortcuts to My Computer, My Doc's and all those, have missing labels. I fixed that by using the Royale Noir theme. But, now there is *another* problem. Not with Royale Noir, but with the VistaXP theme (NOT the VistaXP application). So here is the problem. So let's say I go to My Documents, and click on the 'My Downloads' folder I created before I installed this [!BEEP!] theme. If I click on that it opens the search dialog box. Fair enough. But…

I have a small office and we all share a network drive for storing client data. I would like to make it so that everyone's view of that folder is a detailed view, which includes the "category" field, and is sorted by the category. Is it possible to do this without applying that view to all folders on each person's computer under folder optoins in control panel? Thanks!

Hello, I'm going from workgroup to domain. All users on same PC as before. Should I use the File and Settings transfer wizard to backup then restore their settings for the new user, or is there a better way. Someone mentioned to me years ago that a simple registry change may migrate all files, settings, etc over to the new user. Thanks in advance.

I picked up a second computer and would prefer NOT to re-instal windows xp pro on it as it already has that installed from the old owner. Is there a way of either re-naming or deleting the folder with his name on it in the documents and settings folder? default user, administrator, my name, and his name are listed there. I would like to either rename or delete the folder with his name on it. can this be done?

"only part of a ReadProcessMemory or WriteProcessMemory request was completed" error while running executables. Various troubleshooting done..still no answer. Ok, I've seen this all over usenet with no real answer but here's my problem with all that I can find on it. Got 3 servers (DC, Exchange, App Server) all running Windows2k3 Standard. I have about 50 systems running WinXP SP2. Just last week I went to install the client for an application when the client executable file came up with the generic executable icon (the blue/white one) and when I tried to run the application it popped back the error, "only part of a ReadProcessMemory or WriteProcessMemory reques…

How to create user home directory other than C drive?
by Guest ares- 6 replies
Hi all, I have been wondering how I can create a user home directory other than C drive. As you all know, the user home direcoty is located at "C:\Documents and Settings" as default when a new user account is created. My purpose is to disallow a new user modify/create any file in C drive, where the system files are located. I know how to map "My documents" directory out of C, but I have not been successful to do so for the whole user home directory. I will really appreciate any tiny help! Thanks a lot!

right, we can clear the history in Internet Options, but on the address bar the url continues to display in the pull down. I try to hit the delete key but that does not clear them like it does in the pull down for the search. Ok techies, bring me up to speed please. BTW still lingering is why everytime my IE7 opens it asks for a skin type.... All the best. Tønder
