AdAware 2007
by Guest R. McCarty- 21 replies

Recently, I've noticed several issues related to the new AdAware 2007. My boot time significantly increased after installing the latest version. I've had a few issues related to the AdAware service ( aawservice.exe ) not starting or experiencing abnormal stops. Today I was updating my copy of AutoRuns.exe and noticed a new entry in the Boot Execute section - Isdelete.Exe. Did a little research on this and decided to temporarily disable the call to Isdelete.Exe at boot. Interestingly, my boot time decreased from ~63 seconds back to it's more normal 38-Seconds. While I'm not at this point to uninstall Ad-Aware, I'm not very happy with the changes. This new…

Some folders not accessible on home network
by Guest Mary- 0 replies
I have a desktop set up to have access to some folders on my laptop, mainly used for backing up. Suddenly I can only access some of them. When I try to access the others I get the message that the "folder is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource etc". All folders I want to share on the laptop (including the ones I can't access) are set for sharing and have the little mark on the icon confirming this. My network is through a Belkin wireless router but I connect both by cable. Any help appreciated. -- Posted via a free Usenet account from http://www.teranews.com

I have just made comments and not highlighted that I had questions from each of you as you threaded. I apologize and will try to rephrase my last most pertinent questions ... but now I realize I probably won't be able to ask them here .. because they branch off of what my questions initially were here ... and onto the whole reason why I came here. I initially came here to find out the latest version of Internet Explorer and instead saw the post about Ad-Aware 2007. I am going to past my last post here .. now as a question and re-edit it. I should not have mentioned PayPal or tried to "buy" some help ... Sorry. No disrespect was intended. I will try…

Resuming from Standby is a normal boot-up process
by Guest laurenced- 14 replies
Hi all I enabled S3 (Suspend to RAM) in my BIOS and reinstalled XP Pro today, but when I go into Standby it appears to complete the process successfully (it goes off within ~5 seconds) but more often than not, when I start up the PC again, it loads up Windows from scratch rather than recovering from Standby mode. A few times it has resumed correctly, but with no obvious reason as to why. I've no idea what the problem is and it's really frustrating :( Anyone have any ideas? Help much appreciated!

Hi, We know that Longhorn comes with .NET 3. Can someone confirm if .NET 2 is supported on Longhorn? If yes, can we have both .NET 3 and .NET 2 on the same Longhorn machine or how to have .NET 3 removed and install .NET2? Thanks in advance. ~Krishna

Hi My parents live in the USA and have Windows XP Pro, and I live in Australia and have Windows XP Home. We both have the latest version of Windows Live Messenger. My parents sometimes have problems with their PC and ask me for help. How do we use the Remote Assistance feature in WLM (or another product, if need be)? A detailed description would be most useful. Thanks in advance.

Does Windows Defender do anything?
by Guest Victor- 4 replies
Hi and sorry if this is not in the right group, but I couldn't find a forum specifically for Windows Defender. I have Defender installed, but I am beginning to wonder if it's even doing anything. I don't see any alerts and I never find any trace of it detecting spyware/tracking cookies. When I run a scan, it never finds anything, but when I run ad-aware, it will detect a bunch of stuff on my system. For anyone running Defender, is the program worthwhile or should I just dump it and run ad-aware/spybot s&d?

Acronis True Image Oddity
by Guest Jack Gillis- 7 replies
I used True Image to back up my Win XP 12G NTFS System Partition to separate internal HD formatted NTFS. The resulting image is 5,113,960KB. I then did the same thing to a FAT32 USB external drive and got two files -- one 4,194,304KB and the other 820,934KB for a total of 5,015,238KB. That surprised me. I kind of expected the sum of the two FAT32 to be a slight bit larger than the single NTFS file because of the information needed by True Image to connect the two files. No big deal. I just wonder if someone would explain why this happens. Thank you.

by Guest Wendi- 1 reply

What I was doing: scanning in artwork for a CD, then moving the scanned artwork from "My Scans" to a flash drive. I then recieved this error message: "Cannot copy(codename) the directory or file cannot be created". I have been doing this for awhile without problems, and then all of a sudden, it doesn't work. I am unable to move anything. I tried to move different scans , pictures(in My Pictures) and I just keep getting the same message. It also will not allow me to drag an item either. Help anyone?

Monitor turns off an won't turn back on
by Guest Steve Wright- 0 replies

Hi, When I leave my machine running on a big job I log off by switching user and let it run in background mode. I also turn off the monitor. Sometimes when I try to log back on, the monitor will power up but XP won't power up the monitor with the display. The result is I have to do a complete warm boot via the reset switch - not the result I wanted. Any ideas? Steve Wright
