I started having problems with this a couple of days ago. It bogs down the system and allows tons of pop-ups. Did a virus scan and adware scan and that did not fix it. I ran a hijackthis log and have posted it below.... A friend has tagged it with has tagged the log file with his comments. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated on how to get rid of this.... I really need to get this fixed.... Thanks in advance. XP Hibernate fix setup error KB909095
by Guest Paul- 1 reply

I've got a Dell Inspiron 6400 with (silly me) 2GB of RAM. I recently had to do a repair install of XP Pro SP2, but the KB909095 hibernate fix for computers with more than 1GB of RAM is failing during setup. During the setup process, I get the error "Failed to migrate dependent packages". Before the XP repair install, I was able to apply the KB909095 hibernate fix without difficulty. Is there a way to manually unpack and apply this fix? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/909095 -- Paul

FTP very slow over LAN - is this an XP security issue?
by Guest DeanB- 5 replies

Hello all, I can transfer 50MB in 5 seconds using a mapped-drive connection between a PC and a DLink DNS323 network drive enclosure. This is using a wired 100Mbps ethernet and the common Linksys WRT54G router. However, to transfer the same data using the built-in FTP server on the DNS323 takes around 90 seconds, or about 20 times slower. Same LAN connection is used. I am wondering if XP is doing any security checks, or if its possibly an antivirus protection that decides an FTP transfer would be more risky. The data consists of around 20,000 small jpeg images. Not sure if this is itself a problem, I guess I should try to send a single file and see what…

Modem Amperage selection
by Guest johngood_____- 3 replies

My broadband modem transformer has stopped working. My son has a small mains transformer with 'variable voltage' output choice (i.e. 3v, 6v, 12v etc) which I intend to use. Written on the tranformer is a chart with two lots of readings against each choice of voltage output. So against the 12 volt output (which is what I need) it says : '6V amps' and also it says '500 Milliamps'. The 500 milliamps I'm assuming is the maximum amperage it will deliver, but what is the meaning of 6V amps please? Thanks for any advice.

My speakers work but I can't turn up the volume.
by Guest EJ- 6 replies

When I try and turn up the volume on my keyboard it doesn't go up. Whenever I go to Accessibility Sound Options from the Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices option on the control panel all the options are grey i can't access them. Whenever I go to the Master Volume it says: "There are no active mixer devices avaiable. To install mixer devices, go to Control Panel, click Printers and Other Hardware, and then click Add Hardware. This program will now close." *I think I might have deleted something that deals with it. -Please respond with an opinion or helpful information, all info is appreciated.

My /Documents & Settings/user id/Local Settings/TEMP folder contains a lot of files. I would like to clean it out a bit to speed up the Antivirus checking. What files can I safely delete: 1. All files of type 'tmp' ? 2. All files with names starting with '~' (tilde) or 'TEMP' ? 3. All empty folders? 4. All zero length files? 5. Log files that have not been updated in the last month or more? 6. *.JPD files (no idea what these are)? 7. *.jPG files (why are all these thumbnails in here?) 8. Any *.dlls? Why are these in here? 9. Any *.exe files? Why are these in here? 10.*.MSP (in this case, Windows Installer patch files - why are these big files here? …

adding to local usergroup after first login.

Hi, In our domain, we are connected around 100 PCs. except for a user (myadmin), we have given all other users as domain users power only. However if any user require admin rights for their PCs we give admin rights to their user name in that pc through the myadmin user only. Since some of the users are changing their pcs frequently whenever they ask admin rights to their PCs we are going to their location and giving admin rights. We couldn't able to connect their pcs remotely through Dameware Remote control since their user id is not even in power user group in that local machine since their are logging to that pc with their ID for the first time. So, m…
