XP License online / delivery time ?
by Guest RJK- 4 replies

While working on an old XP system box for a "friend," and MS updating it, up popped MS's "...this copy has been stolen etc," so I did the online hot-fix and duly coughed up the £63.45 for a license code and did the hot-fix, and during the procedure I'm sure I saw, in as many words, "...you'll get a XP cd in the post." MS sent me an email saying that it was shipped on the 6th, no sign of a disk yet. Anyone know where it comes from or how long it takes ? ...also, I'm sure I saw in the news that there are postal strikes going on in the UK somewhere ! regards, Richard

790 iriver - XP doesn't recognize driver so I can't update or anything usb! pls help!!

790 iriver - XP doesn't recognize driver so I can't update or anything usb! pls help!! I purchased an iRiver 790 (mp3 player) series from ebay. It connects to my computer ok - USB connected - but I can't run the firmware update. The iRiver didn't come with any manuals or software, so I am trying to play catch-up now. When I downloaded the driver (Ifp700.inf), I right click on the file, hit install and nothing happens. When I check the Device Drivers, I get a yellow Exclamation mark beside the Iriver 790 HIGH SPEED USB. When I try and install the driver, it says THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THIS DRIVER. Not sure what to do at this point. Any ideas?

Is there a way to have my computer turn itself on at a set time every weekday? It would be nice not to have to wait for the boot up. I don't want it to logon by itself, just power up. Thanks.

won't boot again
by Guest Steve T- 16 replies

Gone for a week. Came back and my XP-SP2 MC won't boot. Had this problem about 2 months ago and had to have the PC recover to original configuration. I think I read somewhere that I might only have one or two chances to correct the problem when first attempting to boot up. Don't know what that means. Start Windows normally did not work. Use last known good configuration also failed. I booted in Safe Mode with Networking where I can access files and internet. This PC is part of a wired 3 PC network at home. Now that I am here, what can I do to resolve the boot problem? Thanks, Steve T.

Why is my computer shutting off?
by Guest rushs_99- 3 replies

I am having a weird problem that is driving me insane. My computer just shuts itself off in the middle of playing a game. It happens when I play Oblivion and when my son plays Command and Conquer. There is no warning....the computer just shuts off. It can happen after 2 minutes of gaming or an hour. Time does not seem to matter. The other weird thing is that it never happens doing other mundane tasks like word processing or surfing the Internet. It only shuts down while playing games. I am running the latest video card driver and my copy of Windows XP has all the latest updates. I also do not have any virus/malware. I do not think it is software related an…

Flash Drive
by Guest Janice- 2 replies

My hard drive is dying and i want to back up my picture folder, which is less than 2 GB. I bought a 2 GB flash drive. Is this a good way to back them up? And if i add more pictures to my computer later, can i add them to my flash drive or will it overwrite what is already on it? Or, if i back up the picture folder a second time (with the additonal photos) will it write over my original back up? I hope this makes sense. Thanks -- Janice

I am unable to open MS Word 2007 documents sent via e-mail with my MS Word 2002 (Office XP). I receive it as AOL message attachment "winmail.dat." I have even downloaded the MS Word 2007 converter and still get Error in opening. I don't understand why I receive it as a .dat file. Where is this conversion taking place and why doesn't the converter work? Any ideas?

Transfer settings from workgroup to domain
by Guest J- 0 replies

Hello, I am setting up a domain. What is the best way to transfer settings from workgroup user to the domain user? Is File and Settings transfer wizard the best way to go? All users will be on same hardware. Someone told me that there may be a way to go into the registry and change a SID and that would do it. TIA
