malicious software removal tool causes system to freeze?
by Guest End user- 1 reply

I am using a Dell Dimension 2300 with windows xp home edition, etc. and have a problem with the most recent release of mrt.exe (09/05/07). This problem has occurred in the past, but I haven't noticed it much recently, until this update ran. I can't run a manual quick scan or full scan without the system just freezing up. I have tried escaping using the task manager and/or ctrl/alt/del with no success. I have to use the power button to shut down and restart. The mrt.log shows that the tool started, but doesn't indicate a result. Is this indicative of any particular problem? Any ideas how I troubleshoot this? Also noticed recently that I can't turn sys…

what is the best software to manage these tasks?
by Guest -keevill-- 3 replies

This is what we are doing now and then how we *think* we want to manage our daily office functions. We currently receive enquiries -sometimes price enquiries sometimes just information requests- and each of these emails are received every person in the office team in their Outlook email box. Someone starts to deal with an enquiry and in order that others don't also deal with it, they cc their replies to all the others in their office. Sometimes other people have to take over the enquiry if the original person is not in the office and they in turn cc any replies to all the others. This is manifestly inefficient in many ways as is obvious. We think we would like…

Disk Repair Software Needed
by Guest Davoud- 8 replies

I have an external USB drive (FAT32) that has become corrupted. I do not believe that there is a hardware problem; at least I will proceed on that assumption for the time being. Windows (multiple machines) can't see the drive; Macs (multiple) can see it but can't mount it or repair it. (Macs can read/write FAT32.) I need a recommendation for a utility to attempt to repair this disk. Something I can purchase on-line and download would be great, but I want good software and will order a CD on-line or drive to the store if necessary. Thanks! I am trying to clean a friends computer which was plagued with several trojan horses. Suddenly, when I rebooted the normal Windows desktop came up in a different mode, not the classic blue. It is now tan. I have no network connections even though it is connected to my home network. When I open system properties I see that the computer name is FatAlbert.com. I can not move icons on my desktop. Is anyone familiar with this? TIA bdog

Hi! I have a strange issue on one machine using Windows XP SP2 member of the domain, user with admin rights and using IE7 now. The problem is that user is not able to open any link from any application or even links on the desktop - when it clicks it opens ALWAYS web IE7 with default web page. Only after opening one internet explorer and leave it there with home page it user can click on other links to open. I tried to reset settings, and even tried to install other browser and make a new browser default and then again force IE to become default. They are using Sharepoint so it must get this thing to work. Thank you for your time and your help, Lu…

Hi All, I have a customer with XP-Pro,sp2 that gets a print spooler error and looses all her printers from her control panel, printers window. To fix her problem, I erased all the files (they were considerable) from her C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\PRINTERS directory. Then, restarted the print spooler in services. Problem: worked from two days, now she is back to her spooler errors again. (Sorry, I don't remember the error, just that it was something about the print spooler being crashed.) Anyone have any suggestions as to how to permanently fix her problem? I was thinking of erasing her spool cache again and reinstalling he…

Hey I've got 2 computers in my home network, these computers are connected to each other via a router pc1 has winXP pro + sp2 pc2 has win2k3 Each computer can ping the other using it's IP address... but not by using netbios name. When I ping using netbios names I get this message: "Ping request could not find host PC4. Please check the name and try again." WINS is installed on the win2k3 computer The winXP computer are using dynamic IP (DHCP), while the win2k3 computer are using static IP address. The winXP computer has had the same IP address for years so I don't see any difference here between static and DHCP..... well, I'm a newbie on this so I c…
