by Guest Kira- 0 replies

Hi All, I have a question on using NTFS compress partition. I used to use NTFS without compress on my mobile disk and have little fragment. Recently, I formatted its all partition and use compress on each partition. When I copy all files back to it, I found that there are so many fragment on each partition. And when I copy a file to it, it shows as fragment. I check all this by using Windows XP defragment. Does anybody know why? Thank you!

by Guest Wynn- 5 replies

I am trying to access a new web site that we are building at our hosting company. The developer has told me to access the web site at the IP address. I have been able to access this site successfully until yesterday when I started getting the following messsage on all three computers on my network: "Warning! It appears that you are about to access a non-standartd we address format." It goes on to say that I will nedd to change my "preferences" if I want the message to stop. I tried to access this IP address in IE, Firefox and Safari - all with a similar warning message. I have gone into MSCONFIG and deselected all of the startups, rebooted and stil…

My laptop (Win XP Pro) has become very slow to start up (more than 5 minutes before it is ready for business) and shutting down seems to take a long time too (about 3 minutes). What could I do to speed up the process? I have run CCleaner and also tried to uninstall unimportant programs - but it does not appear to help.

Exclusive Interview: Microsoft Admits What Went Wrong with Vista, and How They Fixed It it's a first step from MS to admit that vista was crap before SP1. Good! Now all they have to do is confess that vista is really unfixable 100%. But they wont do that unless windows7 is out first. http://www.maximumpc.com/article/features/shattered_dreams_and_broken_promises_vistas_failure_launch We sat down with Microsoft to hear the company's side of the Vista story. What lessons have been learned following the worst Windows launch in the company's history? Is Microsoft doing enough to regain PC users' faith? Way back in January 2007, after years of hype and …

System Restore will not restore!
by Guest Eddy- 9 replies

My PC is working normally, no viruses, etc, and System Restore checkpoints are created every day or two, sometimes more often if I install new software or after windows updates. I do not use System Restore very often, but on each occasion I have tried it has always failed to work. Today I installed something (a reputable trial program, not some iffy freeware) that did not seem to uninstall correctly, so I thought I would just restore to yesterdays checkpoint. However, after the usual reboot it just says it cannot restore to that checkpoint and nothing has been changed. I tried the previous days checkpoint. Same thing. And so on for 5 previous restore points. …

I am having problem with windows xp sp3. I can't bring the system restore screen. It appears blank white. The problem started this way... I have WinFax Pro 10.04 on windows xp but fax sharing wasn't working therefore, Symantec suggested the solution where it asked to go to admin tools and click on component services and my computers, right click and click on properties, click on COM Security, Edit limits and add anonymous logon and check local and remote activation. I followed all the steps still it did not resolve the winfax sharing issue but got windows problem. When I rebooted the system, I noticed it takes long time to start and login. Further, I recei…

Windows XP Pro system has slowed to a crawl...
by Guest husky86- 18 replies

I've presently exhausted all ideas about tackling this ongoing situation, so I thought I would turn to this forum to see if anyone has any ideas. Here's the problem: In my wife's office at work she is using a Dell OptiPlex 8200 system (Pentium 4, 1 GB RAM, Windows XP Professional (Service Pack 3), 80 GB hard drive (60% full)). During the past couple of months, her system has experienced a TREMENDOUS slowdown. The best way to describe it is that it's like trying to move through "molasses in January".... it just takes forever to accomplish anything like loading applications, installing or uninstalling programs, completing tasks within applications, etc. …

Problems w Adobe Reader 9.0
by Guest mdpeters149- 4 replies

I just downloaded Reader 9.0 and it installed automatically. Now whenever I start/restart the computer, it goes to the folder labelled c://program files/adobe/acrobat.com and displays the contents of said folder. I looked in the startup folder and there is nothing indicating that this should happen. What gives? Should I uninstall/reinstall? Thanks
