Problem with Speech after un-installing Speech SDK 5.1 for XP
by Guest Rebecca Trent- 0 replies

I am running Windows XP SP2. I installed Windows Speech SDK 5.1 from here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=5e86ec97-40a7-453f-b0ee-6583171b4530&DisplayLang=en After installing, everything worked fine, could get programmatic interfaces to "Talk" and respond. All was well. I un-installed the product to free up some space, and re-installed it to the same machine, Now upon re-installation with no other major changes to the OS, I am unable to get Speech working on development side -- or even in Windows. Let me explain -- when I click "Speech" in the Control Panel, I get this message: "The requested task cannot be carried out …

right-click problem
by Guest snyderkr1- 2 replies

When I right-click to get to the short-cut menu, I get the send error report message, and the application shuts down. Usually I'm trying to send files to the floppy or organize favorites in Windows Explorer or Internet Explorer when this happens, but it affects all kinds of applications because I use the shortcut menus so much. Will a repair install or whatever that's called help, and if I do that, how much of my system will change? Will I have to reinstall everything just like after a format-and-reinstall?

shut down restart
by Guest Heidi- 8 replies

When I turn my computer on, I get a winlogon.exe error message. Then when I turn off the computer, it automatically restarts, and I have to shut down twice to get it to turn off. I disabled "automatically restart" so that I could see what error message I receive. I now get "Fatal System Error Stop c000021a". I'm not sure what to do now. Any help would be appreciated.

external Hard Drive has two USB connectors
by Guest johngood_____- 6 replies

A while ago I bought a small portable external hard drive (the size of hard drive they put in laptops) and an aluminium casing for it. It was at a computer fair and i'm not able to go back and ask about it, but the lead that was included has one end to go to the external hard drive and at the other end *two* separate usb connectors to go to the computer. One of these usb connectors is coloured red. Why would there be two usb connectors, please? Should I use the red one? The neutral coloured one, or both?

Is there a way for me to disable the "Desktop Cleanup Wizard" from appearing on my screen and prompting me about unused program icons on my desktop? I am perfectly aware that I can delete any desktop icons any time I wish. I don't need this annoying pop-up to remind me.

How can you retrieve these messages if they disappear before you get a chance to read them. Or can you set these to stay on longer or stay on until you close them?

I get a delay of up to a minute when right clicking on file names (not folders) in Windows Explorer before the pop up message is displayed. Disabling the 'Open With' option of the pop up through Registry resolves. Any thoughts on how to resolve?

ipod & usb
by Guest John Ratzenberger- 7 replies

Lenovo laptop, 2 USB 2.0 ports, XP/SP2. A pocket drive lives in one USB port as E:, the other port is everything else. Has been working fine for years ... I installed iTunes/iPod using 2nd port -- all work fine. Both USB ports are still working hardware-wise <=== Note. If I plug in a USB device with own program, such as camera, iPod, etc, it works fine. But the 2nd port (the one the Ipod was in) is not recognized by Windows if I plug in a thumb drive, etc -- I cannot see the drive F: in My Computer. If I open a command window, I can see drive F and read/write, etc ... I just cannot see it in Windows itself ??? Annoying ... Any ideas - thanks in adva…

RE: How to re-install windows installer
by Guest Frusrated- 0 replies

RE: How to re-install windows installer I have exactly the same problem where I cannot install, update or deinstall anything which uses the Windows Installer ( cannot even update Windows itself...). If a program or a game is updating through its own system (like Nod32) it updates perfectly. If I try to deinstall those programs in belief that I can update them by downloading the newest available software, it says there is an error in Windows Installer and that I need to contact further customer support (which I have done now thrice in vain). I have so far downloaded 2 different Windows Installer versions and over three different Windows XP patches and u…
