Severe color problem (happens to all browsers)
by Guest Daniel Kaplan- 7 replies

This is a cross post, but this problem is so weird to me that I just had to put it out there to as many people as I can. Someone somewhere must recognize what this is??!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?! Ok, this is about XP, am sure, because it happens in IE as well as a freshly installed copy of Firefox. This person let her mother mess with her computer (and she did a number on the colors). Now what happens is that ANY browser will not show all colors, or navigation tabs, etc. I took a picture of both screens showing the good on the top and the bad on the bottom. Had to use a different computer to take the good picture. http://www.warptv.com/image/weirdness.jpg…

I have an employee who had some files on his computer that were against company policy, and were offensive to other employees. I think we know what kind of files they were. I trust the employee and I feel that he is telling the truth that he did not place them there. Is there any way to windows logs any body that UNC'ed to his computer and placed the files there? such as \ \workstation_name\c$ Thanks!

Windows XP Pro boot-up problems
by Guest Paul.Lee.1971@gmail.com- 2 replies

Hi everyone, My laptop froze today and shut down. When it came back up, there was a screen that I had never seen before - "We apologise for the inconvenience..." and saying that a possible hardware or software installation may have caused problems. It gave a series of options - boot up in safe mode, and a few options including network connections or command prompt; boot up using last safe configuration, or just boot as normal. After selecting any one of these, the Windows XP logo appears, with the progress bar; so far so good. There is then a brief flash of a blue screen of death, with some text on it. Then the computer reboots, doing an duto detect of IDE devi…

2 minutes to find "My Computer"
by Guest NOTEKY- 8 replies

XP HOME, 1.6GHz PIII All of a sudden, it is now taking a minimum of 2 minutes (at least) for my PC to display the contents of "My Computer". If I click on "My Computer" using Windows Explorer, it searches for at least 2 minutes before it finds the contents. Once the contents of "My Computer" are found/visible, they open immediately. The folder "My Documents" on the other hand opens immediately. It doesn't matter where/how I try and access "My Computer", ie: start menu, using windows explorer or an application, it is taking a minimum of 2 minutes to find/display the contents. Additionally, when I open an application, eg: WMP, and click on the "l…

XP Freeze
by Guest maz- 8 replies

When I start up XP will either start as far as the desktop picture and not all of the programs and then freeze completely or it will get as far as loading everything in and then freeze. If I click on something nothing happens I cannot even get task manager to display. Sometimes it even lets me open an application/program then freezes, restart does not always solve the problem. I have an Acer Aspire SA80 running XP Home, plenty of ram and hard drive space, an NVidia 6200 graphics card, all updates and drivers up to date. The machine has defrag, disk cleanup, Defender scans, anti virus scans (Avast), Comodo firewall, avast anti spyware, Comodo BOClean, scans…

monitor won't resume
by Guest ray124c41- 4 replies

I have Windows XP Pro SP2. If the system has been in standby for only a few minutes (I don't know exactly or even approximately, how few minutes), the monitor will resume (come on) along with the rest of the system. However, after having been in standby a sufficiently long time, everything resumes except the monitor screen. Only the little green light on the monitor comes on. Then after a minute or so, the light becomes amber and then eventually it turns off altogether. If I hit the power button soon after the light goes off, the screen lights up. If I wait too long to hit the button, then only the green light goes on, eventually becomes amber a…

by Guest Thomas_Dallas- 5 replies

I have tried to run recovery CD. Boot ini, MBR, no help. I Downloaded "Bootmaster' and it says that my boot partitions are good. I am not sure where to go next. I was originally trying to Mirror my existing HDD with a new HDD (WD) using the LifeGuard tool. It did copy and labeled the drives according..however it did not make my new HDD bootable. I went to repeat the process..(thinking I might have missed a step). Now I have removed the "new" HDD and replaced with the original one...now it wont boot. The data and the partitions are present..in other words I did not accidentaly overwrite or format the wrong drive. Any suggestions? Restarting in "Saf…

The Sick and Twisted Mind Of The Linux Advocate.

You had better agree 100 percent with the radical Linux movement or you will find that they will turn on you faster than a cornered rat. Here is one example where the radical Linux zealots are trying to boycott Novell: http://boycottnovell.com/ Roy Schestowitz, the comp.os.linux.advocacy SPAMMER is behind this one. BTW he is also the nutcase who claimed PJ of Groklaw was poisoned by people who don't like what she says. A real nutcase. http://digg.com/linux_unix/Return_of_the_Munchkins_Yet_another_Microsoft_Shill_Exposed http://groups.google.com/group/comp.os.linux.advocacy/browse_thread/thread/feb8c1b5938a03b/649cac2af23ff94d?lnk=gst&q=schestowitz+&am…

RE: 386 folder issue
by Guest SJB- 1 reply

RE: 386 folder issue Hi, I believe it's an OEM installation disc that was given with the machine, which was built by a retailer according to my hardware needs. While attempting to install the Fax, the computer keeps asking for the XP pro SP2 CD that I don't have. I didn't find i386 folder on my machine and my installation disc either. So, I can see possible 2 routs for solution 1. Either to get the downloaded version of XP pro SP2, which I don't know where (so far searching for it in vain) or order the CD. 2. Utilize the XP home SP2 version i386 folder to that I have access for Fax Service installation. Should the second option be used at all? Than…

Hi. I've just brought a new laptop with Vista on it. I downloaded Windows Live Messenger 8. I open it up, type my e-mail address and password in, click sign in and it trys to sign in for about 10 minutes. Eventually I get a message saying it could be your internet connection that stops you signing in. Now my Internet works fine, my firewall isn't preventing Messenger logging in. I don't understand why it wont sign in. Can anyone help me? What can I do to get it to sign me in? Regards
