I seem to remember someway to have a user, copy his/her settings into a new user, then rename it or say make it a limited account for various reasons i.e. two duplicate users, one an administrator, one a limited user. Anybody remember something along those lines?? manzie

CSC Recovery of Offline Files
by Guest UName IT Solutions- 0 replies

We have a computer were files were in an offline mode. When we went to reinstall our domain controller we didn't know some files were not syncronizing to the server. We took the computer off the old domain and switched it to the new domain. We can no longer access the offline files even though we have access to the entire CSC folder. I can not seem to find anything online that states if we can copy the existing CSC folder on another computer and extract the data. When we attempted this in the past it made the system almost unmanagable by freezing the computer. I am looking for a solution to be able to access this CSC file. I know I can use CSCCMD to extr…

I, like 99 percent of the people out there look at the end result and could care less where it comes from. If a driver exists for Windows and not for Linux, then Linux sucks. That's the way of the world. Do you care who made the hoses for your washing mac…

Connecting to the Internet with XP
by Guest John-Paul- 3 replies

I'm having no luck connecting my sister's computer to the internet. The way it's set up in our house is this - there's a room in the basement with the cable modem, which connects to a hub, which in turn connects to another device that sends the connection to all the jacks in different rooms in the house. I know the jack in my sister's room works because I've successfully connected to the internet using my mom's laptop, which happens to be an Apple. Anyways, the blinking green lights on her ethernet card are visible, but XP always says there is limited or no connectivity. What's the setting that I'm missing? I really can't figure this one out.

Entering Unicode Characters in Notepad
by Guest Nathan Sokalski- 4 replies

I am attempting to enter Unicode characters in Notepad. From my understanding, this is done by using ALT+<DECIMAL CODE ON KEYPAD>. I have tried this with several codes that I got from the http://www.unicode.org site, but it did not show the correct characters (I admit that I did have to convert from hexadecimal to decimal, but that is not a hard task). For example, ALT+65532 should show the object replacement character, right? I thought that was correct, but it did not show that character. Is there something I am doing wrong? Also, does anybody know of a website that gives a complete listing of Unicode characters, with their codes in decimal, without…

Problem with Removing Video Driver to Install New One
by Guest micahfrance@gmail.com- 9 replies

I am trying to update the driver for my video card (Windows XP SP2, Radeon X300/X550). I'm instructed to uninstall the old driver before installing the new one. When I uninstall the old one, I'm instructed to restart the computer. When I restart the computer it says "Found New Hardware" and automatically reinstalls the old driver. I can never do a clean uninstall which I prevents my driver from updating correctly and then causes lots of errors. All of the information I've found on this says "Just cancel the Found New Hardware prompt" but my prompt has no cancel button or even an "X" to click, it just does it automatically. If I could cancel it, I would. I…

.startup problems
by Guest RR2- 4 replies

I can usually stumble through these problems myself (with the help of Google), but this one has me stumped. Laptop running XP Home. During boot, once it gets past the Windows Logo screen, the screen turns black and stays that way with only the cursor showing. The cursor moves with mouse and touchpad input. None of the keyboard keys have any effect (IE, no task manager on ctrl-alt-del, no win key response etc). F-8 had no effect in bringing up Safe Mode. The only way I could get a response to get it into safe mode is to remove the battery while in the suspended state described above. Doing that procedure, I can get into safe mode, but again it han…

Dual boot reinstall
by Guest Paul- 0 replies
I have XP and Vista on 2 separate hard drives. Seems I may have a sneaky virus and I don't trust that the scans got everything so I want to reinstall XP. Since it's best to have XP installed before installing Vista, can I reformat and reinstall XP on the separate drive and will Vista even realize it? Meaning, will Vista's bootloader be changed or will it just see the XP boot info and not even know it was reinstalled? Thanks

Printscreen problem
by Guest BW- 5 replies

Hello. I am having trouble using the printscreen button to get a screen capture. When I press printscreen (or alt-printscreen), it just prints the screen to my printer, but apparently isn't putting it on my clipboard. If I then go directly to Powerpoint or Word and go to Edit, the "paste" (and "paste special") option is grayed out - I can't get to it, so I can't then paste the screen capture that I think I should have. Thanks for any help you can give me.
